Not sure what to say?

Mike and I came up on each other´s radar screens sometime in the mid/late 80s over our common interest in something called Salt Diapirism (only a geologist would know what that means) in the coastal waters of Norway. Over the years we became friends, I visiting him at his ice cream factory (which he had converted into an experimental laboratory for de-salinizing seawater) in Saint Petersburg FL, and later making it a regular part of my year to come visit him in DC, sometimes as his guest at...

Michael´s memory is a blessing. He lived large and was an inspiration to us. Gone but not forgotten.

He had a happy demeanor and a generous spirit

Working together at research labs (NRL and LaSpezia), Mike and I have been friends, colleagues, shipmates on research cruises, and coauthors - and our families have been dear friends throughout. As fanatic Badgers, we shared memories of the University of Wisconsin Geology & Geophysics Program, although our times (Mike's undergraduate and my graduate) did not overlap.
My wife Joann and I extend our deepest sympathy to Eleanor, Rachel, and the family. As we say in our tradition, "May his...

I met Mike first time at a conference in Norway during 2011, and since then he and his books had been an inspiration to me, motivated me to continue my research in the field of gas hydrates.
Mike had a unique personality, with a wide background in different aspects of science and engineering, and a great visionary about the future of gas hydrate applications in human race and beyond planet earth. The gas hydrates community will greatly miss his ideas and inspirations. Condolences to his...

I only met Michael at research conferences, but he made a big impression. He spoke and you wanted to listen; he left you smiling, and wondering about things you thought you knew; and how he could have so many backgrounds. A sad loss to them all. Condolences to his family.

As one of the younger cousins, it's hard to imagine our huge family diminished by his loss. Michael was the boys boy, the mans man. Strong, fit, fearless, and witty. My childhood in Madison during the summers were filled with staying in his room whenever I could while he was away. I'll cherish having known my big cousin Michael and the coolest memory was playing in his Lotus as it sat in our Garage. Sad story! Poor car, poor Michael! Hope you're racing around in it wherever you are!
