Dr. Notis had a profound impact on my life and career and I am eternally grateful for his presence in my life. As an undergraduate anthropology/materials science engineering student, he took me under his wing and inspired my love of archaeometallurgy. I published my first papers with him and he connected me with my first job in the field. It is with great sadness that I read this news about Mike. When I lived in Philadelphia some years ago and worked at the Penn Museum, Mike was a good friend, colleague and mentor at Lehigh. He was a prominent contributor to the field of ancient metallurgy later in his career. He studied finds from Israel and various other places using his skills as a brilliant metallurgist. We published artifact studies together, but for me the most value came in his mentoring me in the science of metallurgy...
