Dr. Notis had a profound impact on my life and career and I am eternally grateful for his presence in my life. As an undergraduate anthropology/materials science engineering student, he took me under his wing and inspired my love of archaeometallurgy. I published my first papers with him and he connected me with my first job in the field. He gave me my first opportunity to travel abroad with the UMIST exchange program which inspired a love of travel and adventure. He was always so kind, supportive and a dear mentor to me. Team Notis forever! Sending so much love and aloha to your family. His smile, brightness in his eyes and laugh will always stay with me. In gratitude, Kathy Jakielski

To the Notis Family, I knew your dad from working at the Temple. Always a smile and hello at the same time telling an interesting story. He was indeed a true and honorable man and a joy to be around. Surely, he will be missed. May your sadness be short and your memories LAST FOREVER.

It is with great sadness that I read this news about Mike.
When I lived in Philadelphia some years ago and worked at the Penn Museum, Mike was a good friend, colleague and mentor at Lehigh. He was a prominent contributor to the field of ancient metallurgy later in his career. He studied finds from Israel and various other places using his skills as a brilliant metallurgist. We published artifact studies together, but for me the most value came in his mentoring me in the science of metallurgy and how to, in the laboratory, tap the memory of production trapped in ancient metals. His contributions to the field are invaluable.
I send my sincerest condolences to Cooky and all of his family. We have all lost a great person and scholar.
