This is very late I know. I have only now learned of Mike’s death. He worked for me at Nautilus many years ago. He was a very special person. I have often thought of him though I havnt seen him for many years. I have never known anyone quite like him. He was a good guy in so many ways. Driving his TransAm and dating his oiler cheerleader girlfriend—can’t remember her name now—so long ago. Mike would ask me to work him out on the Nautilus machines—and truly no one took it to muscle failure like him. One time a guy stopped me thinking I was hurting him. Mike just laughed and asked me to work him out harder. I have been a minister for some 32 years now and I can’t think of many folks I have cared more about than Mike.Dick Jones

Hard to believe it has been 4 years. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and the most painful part of that is it's just surreal to me that he is really gone. He left us way too early and not one person was ready for it. It still hurts but in a different way now. The only real comfort is still that I know he's in a good place surrounded by some wonderful folks. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Michael was my closest friend for most of my life. We met working at Steak and Ale and he was so funny and kind you couldn't help but want to spend time with him. I will always think of the good old days and the time we spent together. My heart goes out to the Upton family for their tremendous loss.
Love you and miss you always, Michael.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Mike and I dated in high school and reconnected 20 years ago via email. It was always a nice surprise to connect from time-to-time and share the usual jokes. Mike loved his family as much as he loved Trans Am's, Clint Eastwood, the Dallas Cowboys and fishing! So many memories and cherished good times!!! You will truly be missed my dear friend. Your soul, heart and spirit will live on with those of us who knew you so well. See you again one day....

To Mike's friends and family. I am sorry to hear of this loss. I met Mike in the 6th Grade and he was the first person to take me in a car over 100 mph. He was quite proud of that Firebird. He always had the ability to make people smile and laugh. I will always remember him for that.

Mike was the most caring and genuine person we had the honor of being friends with. This came as a sudden shock and the life of someone who could still enjoy life as much as he did, despite everything he went through, was cut too short. Mike, you will truly be missed.

I could not have been luckier than to have Mike as my best friend for over 40 years and to have known him since 4th grade. The only thing that could have made that any more special is what occurred along with it and that is to have gotten to know and love each and every member of his very special family. I could fill this entire website with stories of our antics as young boys and men and we can all look back at those for years but as Paul Harvey would say "The rest of the story" is what a wonderful and enduring friendship we had that few people are blessed enough to ever have. Mike taught me to love people outside my family. It was a valuable lesson that has made me a much better man than I would have been. I know that there will come a time when we can wet our whistles and wet a line together again and look back at our worldly endeavors and laugh. Until then, I know he's getting some good cooking. My deepest love goes out to his family and thanks go the special people that have stepped up in the past few years to help Mike. He was a lucky man in a lot of ways and so were we. I will certainly miss him.

Mark,David and Family, My wife Geri and I were shocked to hear of Mike's passing. We got the news this morning. I had'nt heard from him in several days and was going to give him a call today. I'm so sorry we will not be at the memorial service. Mike was a good friend who always took the time to ask about how our lives were going. He will be missed, his sense of humor, his infectious laughter, his love for his family was center stage and his love and respect for friends was beyond reproach. Our prayers are with you. Mike is a great man that will be honored and remembered by all that knew him. My bad for not introducing him to more people that his optimistic positive attitude and snap of reality could be utilized and appreciated. I will miss him as well as those knew him but do not know that he has left this life.

Mark, David and Family,
We morn with you and are so saddened over the passing of our 'brother' and friend Mike. It surely was an honor and privilege to have been included in his life. By example, he showed us the true meaning and value of friendship. Each of our lives will be ever enriched by his model of love, kindness and perseverance in the face of adversity. We pray God will comfort you in this time of grieving.
