Michel Zimardo Obituary

On April 14, 1940, a charming, independent, and free-spirited child by the name of Michel Frank Zimardo was born. At an early age, he was released into the adoption system by his mother, Margaret Wilson, and subsequently raised on boys ranch for many years in his home state of Arizona. He joined the Navy in the late 1950s, and at discharge had acquired experience as a Master at Arms, and a Boiler Tender. Several years later, he fathered a son, now known by the name of Michael Hall, who originally shared his birth name. He later met and married Sheila Born in the 1960s, and they had three children by the names of Natosha, Vanessa, and Christopher Zimardo. In the early 1970s, he attended beauty school in Lynnwood, WA with his wife, and he received his cosmetology license there. He opened a hair salon, also in Lynnwood known as "The Floating Zodiac," and it was successful for many years. Also in the early 1970s, he adopted and was fiercely supportive of men's kilts, which he would advocate throughout the rest of his life. He shamelessly wore kilts wherever he went, and eventually became a local celebrity, earning the nickname, "Skirts." His celebrity status grew after he opened a glass-engraving business after relocating to Everett, WA, in the early 1980s. "Michel's Mirror and Glass Engraving" was successful for many years. Many of his works can still be seen on local business, and car windows around the area after all this time. After his children had moved away from home, he relocated to Lynnwood once again, exchanging his glass-engraving trade for sign making instead. This move resulted in another successful small-business venture known as "Michel's Sign Maker." He continued his sign-making business until the end of his life on November 20, 2017. Michel leaves his four children: son, Mike Hall, California, daughter, Natosha (Philip) Monego, Washington, daughter, Vanessa (Brian) Wright, Washington, and son, Chris Zimardo, Washington; five grandchildren, Jacinta, Aaliyah, Kyus, Philip (PJ), and Cianna; brother, Karel Zimardo, California, and sister, Fredericka Gayer, California; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his father, Mike Zimardo, and his mother, Margaret (Wilson) Hanssler. All funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, in Everett. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the service.

To my dad who taught me to be the best at what I do, never give up, and never let others drag you down, to be independent, a leader, and stand tall and fight for what you want, and always help those in need. I will never forget going to work at your construction sites, having perms and colored hair, and different hair styles whenever I wanted, getting picked up from school with the motorcycle, playing tennis together, kickboxing classes, dancing with you to 50's music, eating all of my vegan recipes and never saying anything bad about them, driving all the way out to Olympia to pick me up when I got sick visiting the capital, helping me open up my hair band business, taking me shopping for my prom dress, working on my physics project that came so easily to you, going shopping together, rushing out to my college dorm to pick me up, without a second thought, in the middle of the night because I was homesick, having dinner every week together at my college, teaching me how to draw a butterfly, teaching me to parallel park, your jokes, your bear hugs, and so many more wonderful memories, I will miss your advice, your stories, your time spent listening to me and letting me live and learn, and for supporting me in everything that I have done in my life. You were always there when I needed you, always there when I needed someone to talk to. So much love to you. Someday, I look forward to seeing you again. I am going to miss you so much. I am so happy to have the many memories of being your daughter, and you my dad, and all the time you spent being an amazing father.

"BUTCH"

December 3, 2017

I met "Mike" sometime around 1968-69, when I worked at Meadowdale Chevron, and he worked across the street at the Enco Station. Later, I spent 29 years at Stevens Hospital, and would see him and/or his family there from time to time. If anyone ever "marched to a different drummer",it was Mike Zimardo, and he seemed to like to "strut his stuff in his kilt", while other people just gawked at the man in a "skirt". I think he knew something most of us did't. Strut on Mike, strut on.

I first me Michel when I was an electric meter reader for the PUD. He had just opened Michel's Mirror And Glass Engraving in North Everett, and I came along to help him get his electric service started. He was quite the character, and left a lasting impression. We crossed paths several times over the years, and I will always remember his unique style.

Rest in peace Michel.
