Not sure what to say?

I was in Ms. Alpern's psychology class in my senior year at Spring Valley High School in 1975. She was a marvelous teacher, a role model for young women, with a vibrant personality. She was also the only teacher to ever see who I truly was, as she wrote in my yearbook: "a jock who is also an egghead". I was delighted to see she pursued photography, one of the mediums I engage in after a lifetime in graphic arts and music. I'm a better person for having been taught by her and I feel honored...

Millie Alpern was my AP history teacher in 12th grade in 1970-71. She was my most impactful and consequential teacher to that point in my life. She helped me become intellectually curious, was ever kind and thoughtful, laughed at my jokes and encouraged and made me feel that I could be more than I thought I could be. I have very fond memories of her and am so sorry to hear of her passing. Mitch Tenzer

I student taught with Milly Alpern at Spring Valley High School in 1995. Milly was a friend, a confidant, a mentor and an extraordinary human being. She saw potential in me, a young Latina teaching Social Studies, when nobody else did. Milly taught me how to be an educator, how to plan lessons, how to reach all students and how to love my profession. I will always remember the first day we met and will forever cherish our time together. I am so sorry for your loss as I know, first hand,...

A high school friend sent me Mrs. Alpern's obituary. We graduated Spring Valley High in 1972. Millie was an extraordinary teacher. She loved reaching inside of us and bringing out the best in us. She got us to think about issues and come to our own ideas. She was warm and so caring. I still remember what she wrote in my yearbook, it made me feel seen. I am so sorry for your loss and so wonderful to find out she was so well loved by you. Warmest regards, Robin Hruska
