Mildred Bruffey Hensley, 94, of Charlottesville, Va., passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Heritage Inn Assisted Living.Born May 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Carroll W. Bruffey, Sr., and Hope Bruffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis F. Hensley; a son, Carroll H. Hensley; a brother, William "Bill" Bruffey, Jr.; nephews, Greg Bruffey and David Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Edgar Mitchell and Hugh "Buck" Sacre; and sister-in-law, Sadie Sacre.Mildred graduated from the E. C. Glass High School and The Lynchburg Trade School as a beautician. She was a longtime member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, past president of the Women's Methodist Society, a church lay minister, a member of Methodist circles, and a Sunday school teacher. She worked at C. H. Williams Beauty Salon and the owner/office manager of Hensley's Radiator Service.She loved God, her church, family and friends above all. She especially enjoyed preparing large meals for her family on Sundays and holidays.She is survived by her children, Dennis Phillip Hensley and his wife, Sandra, of Clarksville, Tenn., Frederick L. Hensley, Sr., and his wife, Vivian, of Troy, Va., and Judy Burcham and her husband, Troy, of Gordonsville, Va.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hensley of Charlottesville; sister, Harriet B. Hatfield and her husband, Monte, of Charlottesville; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Bruffey of Charlottesville and Ruth H. Mitchell, of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, P. Darren Hensley, Jeannie Sanner, C. Renea Hensley, Frederick Hensley Jr., and Andrew Hensley; step-grandchildren, Kim Kidd and Tim Shifflett; and three great grandchildren, Sonya Hensley, Alexis Hensley, and Sean Sanner. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews.The family offers their deep appreciation to the amazing staff at the Heritage Inn Assisted Living and to Kelly Louk for their care and many kindnesses for the last five years. They truly became her loving, extended family. Mildred's smiles, giggles and hugs will be immensely missed.A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the chapel at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, 750 Hinton Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.

Mildred Hensley was a beautiful lady God used to pour life into me when I was young. I lost touch through the years, but she will always be in my heart. Sorry for your loss.
