Mitchell Turbak Obituary

TURBAK

MITCHELL A. Age 91, of Roseville, February 28, 2017. Beloved husband of Dorothy for 64 years; devoted father of Kathleen Vogel; cherished grandfather of Jamie (Nick Seibert) Briggs and Keith (Thelma) Briggs; and a very great-grandfather to Ariella and Isabel. Mitch is also survived by his sister, Irene Wosik. He was predeceased by his mother, Josephine (John) Gach, father, Andrew Turbakiewicz, brothers, Billy Turbakiewicz and John Gach III, and son-in-law, Frederick Vogel. Mitch was born in Hamtramck and graduated from high school there in 1944. He served during WWII in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Hanover in the South Pacific. He met his love Dorothy in 1948 after discharge, marrying her in 1952. He completed his Bachelor of Science from the University of Detroit in 1950. Mitch retired from Stroh's Brewery in 1988 after 24 years at Stroh's and 13 years at Goebel's. Mitch was a family man and took great pride in taking care of, not only his wife and child, but also his mother and brother and in later years his grandchildren; attending most of their sport and school activities. He enjoyed family gatherings playing with his great-grandchildren and was an avid Tiger's fan. He was a member of the St. Clair Shores Senior Center and played many years on their Bocce Ball team. Mitch was chairman of the United Way Drive while employed. In later years, he was a member of St. Vincent de Paul. The family will receive friends Friday 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Ave., Roseville, MI. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Basil the Great Church, 22851 Lexington, Eastpointe, MI. Interment will take place 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Sorry I didn't hear of Mitch's passing earlier. He was a good friend to my parents, Elmer and Mary Ballor, I am one of many he helped get a job at the Stroh Brewery bottling plant, back in 1977. I remember Mitch and Dorothy as fun people who were always nice to us kids. RIP Mitch.

Sorry for your loss Dorothy and Kathy. Always enjoyed seeing Mitch at the Dabrowski parties he was always interesting to talk too. Appears Mitch had a very full life and loved to volunteer for good causes.

Our family lived 3 houses up Collingwood Street from the Turbak Family. What a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in along with the Pryors, Jancos, Ceaser & Tracy and many of us belonged to St. Angela Church. The Turbak's were always kind and welcoming into their home. I looked up to
' Big Kathy' growing up and I recall Mrs. Turbak as an excellent homemaker and Mr. Turbak working hard on the landscape and manicuring the lawn. His service in WWII and later a Stroh Company man to be admired.

My parents so enjoyed gatherings with the neighbors and especially square dancing in the basement. One of their fondest memories was a trip to Hawaii with the neighbors, where they said "Mitch was the life of the party".

Dorothy and Mitch made efforts to keep in touch with the neighbors, and we so enjoyed visiting with them at Dorothy's 80th birthday celebration.

I witnessed the love and compassionate care given by Dorothy and Kathleen to Mr. Turbak. Our thoughts and prayers extend to the entire family at this difficult time.

Every memory I have of Mitch has someone with him, whether it was his beloved brother Billy, his beautiful wife Dorothy, or his doting daughter Kathleen and her children, he was always surrounded by loved ones. The smile he wore only showed that it was exactly the way he liked it. The beauty of having a long life, is the incredible moments that your loved ones are left with to cherish. Mitch lived a life to be celebrated. May his memory be eternal. May he Rest In Peace.
