Myrna Anderson Obituary

Myrna "Lena" Anderson

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, Myrna "Lena" Anderson, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 89.

Lena was born on November 17, 1930 in Jerome, AZ to Bill and Ethel (Metzler) Mortensen. She was the 3rd of 6 children. Lena graduated from Thatcher High School and earned her Associates degree from Eastern Arizona College. She worked accounts receivable for many companies including the Army Transportation Corps in Washington D.C., Dr. Hawley, Ryobi, and Bank of America.

In 1954, Lena met the love of her life, Harvey B. Anderson and they were happily married for 66 years. After moving around some, they lived in Oxnard, CA from 1962 to 1983 and Chandler, AZ from 1983 to present.

Lena was active in her church and served as Relief Society President for 8 years. She loved the Boy Scouts of America and pushed her sons, grandsons, and great grandsons to earn their Eagle Scout award. Helping them earn belt loops, pins, and merit badges was her way of showing them how much she loved them. She was proud that all of her grandsons and great-grandsons (that were old enough) earned their Eagle.

Lena was an accomplished seamstress and showed her love for her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters by making them beautiful Christmas and Easter dresses. She was a wonderful cook and hosted many delicious and memorable family gatherings. Family was so important to Lena! She was passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours family history indexing.

She will be missed beyond words and will be forever in our hearts.

Lena is survived by her husband, Harvey, her four children, Linda Garcia, Morris Anderson, Stephen Anderson (Sandy), and Carol Simard (Marc), 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Private Family Memorial will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
