Myrtle's father (Allen) an my grandfather (Gilbert) Smith were brothers. I never knew my grandfather, but Myrtle provided me with so much information about him that I felt like I know him. She knew so much about my distant relatives, things I never would have been able to know without her help. Myrtle an my father (Phil Smith) were first cousins. I will miss our long talks about family.

THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS THE LOSS OF MYRTLE, SHE WAS FAMILY TO US. SHE WAS SUCH AN AMAZING FRIEND TO MY MOTHER FOR OVER 40 YEARS. SHE ALWAYS CALLED TO CHECK ON HER AND BRING HER FRUIT FROM HUBER FARMS OR ANY OTHER PLACE SHE WENT TO PICK AT. I WILL MISS HEARING THE STORIES OF HER GROWING UP IN EASTERN KY. SHE WAS AN AMAZING MENTOR TO SO MANY CHILDREN THROUGH HER TEACHINGS. SHE WAS SO COMPASSIONATE ABOUT HER POLITICAL SUPPORT ALSO. A CHRISTIAN IN EVERY SINCE OF THE WORD! HER GRANDCHILDREN MEANT THE WORLD TO HER! I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT MYRTLE GARLAND AND THE MANY THINGS SHE STOOD FOR HERE ON EARTH. SO BLESSED TO HAVE SHARED A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES WITH HER! REST NOW MY DEAREST FRIEND.
