To The Family: I have never met a soldier that did not want American's to enjoy life and their freedoms on any given day. Likewise, I know that your family will never replace the loss of 'our' hero Petty Officer 3rd Class NAthan Bruckenthal and today is a time for me to let you know, that I am grateful and humbled by his bravery. I will do my part to preserve our American freedoms and I will pray that you will allow God to give you comfort as you make it through each day and that my life...

Just reading this today, May 11, 2010, breaks my heart. Even as years have past, I am sure the pain is still there but we have to hold onto the memories until we see our loved ones again. My son, Mike Sawyer (Dallas, GA), also served in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Homer, Alaska. My heart goes out to you all and I will keep you in my prayers.
