Nedra Warner Obituary

"Our Elect Lady"
July 24, 1928 ~ December 9, 2016
Our dear classy, selfless mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend had her final "curtain call" on December 9, 2016 after many dress rehearsals. She spent her last precious moments surrounded by her biggest fans, her family.
Our mom was born July 24th, 1928 in Ogden, Utah the youngest of three daughters for Erma Oles Marler Nokleby and Alton Bertrand Mortensen. She was raised by a wonderful courageous mother who was widowed three times and her two older sisters, Marba and Josie. Her patriarchal blessing said she would be protected from seen and unseen enemies and she truly was throughout her life.
Mom attended Lowell and Oquirrh Elementary, Bryant Junior High, Stuart Training and East High School where she met her sweetheart, David Gill Warner. They were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple on August 9, 1950. She graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education while enjoying Chi Omega and Lambda Delta sororities. She was blessed to teach fourth grade where she met lifelong friends in her students. For more than 60 plus years she has met yearly with her Crescent Girls from those teaching days, outliving several of them.
Mom touched many lives throughout her callings in the community and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then as a leader in Lambda Delta Sigma, for more than 25 years, she inspired many college-aged women to live a Christ-like life. In 1980, one of her greatest joys was to help chair the Sesquicentennial of the founding of the Church, organizing the participation of a thousand young women in the celebration. Later, our mom also chaired two Deseret News Cavalcades. The first was a dance at the University of Utah stadium on July 4, 1985; second was a Naturalization Ceremony the following year.
After raising their seven cherished children, our parents began to serve LDS missions together. Temple Square started them off by serving with sister missionaries from all over the world. Mom and Dad served as mission presidents over the Family History Mission in Salt Lake City. They also hosted at the Joseph Smith Building and the Conference Center. Later our parents coordinated the Salt Lake Temple View Room as well as leading many Empty Nester evenings in their sweet Parley's 1st Ward.
Although Mom graced countless lives with her pure guileless optimism, she would attribute her greatest joy to her role as wife, mother and grandmother. Mom and Dad enjoyed more than 68 years of courtship. Their love was tangible as we witnessed a love-affair-of-a-lifetime. The two were seamlessly in love and always hand in hand. Even though Mom kept busy with her art and book clubs, Sigma Chi and East High study groups, Dad continued to be the pulse to her heartbeat. When he graduated to heaven before her it left a huge hole in mom's heart. Fortunately, she kept busy by being up for any outing and could outlast anyone in daily chores or on an adventure. We will sincerely miss her soft warm embrace and unfailing acceptance until we meet again.
Mom's legacy of putting the Gospel first and never speaking ill of another person is forever cemented in our hearts. We thank Heavenly Father for blessing us with one of His most precious souls. Mom, we will leave the lights on and hold hands in all our future family prayers. We love you and Dad to the moon and back with a bushel and peck a hug around the neck.
Our mom was proceeded in death by both parents, sisters Marba (Jonathon) Snow, Josie (Virg) Ostler, her husband and our beloved Dad, David Gill Warner, baby daughter Heidi, son David Gill Warner, granddaughter Heidi Kaye Warner, and many other loved ones. She is survived by her children Wendy (Bob) Whitman, Pam Warner/Childs (Todd), Nancy (Glen) Alleman, Gill (Val) Warner, Ned (AnJanette) Warner and Peggy (Steve) Ayers, 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
We would like to offer many special thanks to the Knells and the Ballards for their lifetime friendship. Thanks to many caregivers, especially Asena Ita Aehau, Mele Kuli, Dana Travis and Stephen Scoville. We treasure the countless acts of kindness given by many friends and family. She loved you all dearly.
A viewing will take place Friday, December 17, 2016 at Wasatch Lawn 3401 Highland Dr. from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 with a viewing prior to services from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. also at Parley's First Ward, 2350 S. 2100 E.

To the dear family of Nedra,

Few have touched my life in as profound a way as Nedra! Nedra approached me at a Utah Football game and said I had been on her mind. The next thing I knew a call was extended to serve as an adviser with Lambda Delta Sigma at the University of Utah . . a call that blessed my life and that of my family, in rich abundance.

Nedra is an angel to all and will now be in important places at important times when needed most, watching over countless loved ones as she will continue to bless your lives.

To Nedra's dear family, we thank you for caring for and loving this Elect Lady! One can only imagine the celebration taking place
across the veil.

All my love and blessings,

Carolyn Kirkham Greene

Dear Warner family,

We'll miss the presence of this choice daughter of our Heavenly Father, Nedra M. Warner. However she must be so happy now being with her dear husband and other loved ones. My life has been blessed knowing her.

Being from Monument Park 8th Ward (by Hillside Jr. H.S. & Beacon Hts. Elementary School), seems like I've known Nedra in the Parley's Stake next door since I was 15.

As an adult, I was thrilled to work with her also in Lamda Delta Sigma under Barbara Winder, General R.S. President of the Church, General Board.

For a time I was the Advisor at LDS Business College then became the W. States Lambda Delta Sigma advisor over the college campuses in the W. USA. How fun it was under Nedra's direction visiting other campuses opening up new chapters of Lambda Delta Sigma.

Over the years my daughter Kelee Heiner took lessons from Alice, across the street from your folks, so occasionally I'd visit the Warners. How I loved seeing your choice folks over the years at various places. They were also acquaintances of my mom, Verda (& dad Willard) Nelson who both recently passed away. No doubt they are all busy in new assignments on the other side of the veil.

You are all in my prayers over your loss. Conference weekend I lost my eyesight and my husband Terry is still recovering from surgery so we cannot attend your celebratory services for Nedra. Know that our thoughts are with you all at this time.

Warmest regards and love,
Nadine Nelson Allen

Wendy, my heart goes out to you and your family. So sorry for the loss of your sweet mom. You're in my prayers at this time. I love Nedra (and your wonderful dad, too). Nedra became our adopted Aunt (along with her sisters, Marba and Josie) when my grandpa, L.G. Nokleby, married your grandma, Erma (we called her "Grandma Peggy"). And, it was wonderful, too, that you became an adopted cousin and your siblings as they came along. Just know I'm thinking of you and your family. My dear dad passed away 10 years ago. Then, my mom left us 3 years ago. I miss them so much. I wasn't prepared for the emotions I felt when my mom passed away. It's hard to lose a mom. So, my heart feels with you and your family. Such a dear, wonderful lady, your mom. Know I love you very much and that you're in my prayers! Take care.

I worked with Nedra in Lambda Delta Sigma. She was my area advisor as I opened up a new chapter of the sorority at LDS Business College as a chapter advisor. I was young and still unmarried. She was like a mother to me as I tried to mother the even younger girls at LDSBC. One morning I arrived early at the college to set up for our pledge breakfast. As I was setting up, I was attacked by a man who had somehow broken into the school. Eventually the police came and the man ran away, But in the mean time I broke and dislocated one of my fingers when I was punching up at the man trying to get away. Nedra was soon on the scene, and instead of joining the girls for the breakfast and leaving me to my own devices (which I suggested she do), she drove me to the hospital and stayed with me the entire time that I waited for help, and then again as the doctor worked on my finger. I feel like she's been my guardian angel ever since, even though I have rarely seen her over the last several years. Best wishes to each of her surviving family members as you mourn her loss. I know she will be dearly missed!

We mourn the passing of Nedra. Such a loving and kind person. Gill and Nedra have played an eternal part in all of the King family. We are so glad that Gill taught Bill and Helen the gospel of Jesus Christ and baptized them into the church. They were always part of our family. We will miss them both.

My heart is above full of love for each you and your sweet mom - now and always. I love that you mentioned she never spoke ill of anyone because whenever this trait is mentioned by anyone, I immediately think of Nedra. Each of you, and all of us that were blessed to know her closely, will always be better when we think of her Christlike example of pure goodness that impacted us on a regular basis. She always had so much love and acceptance to give and we were often the recipients of her attention and genuine concern. We are forever grateful to have grown up just across the street from the great Warner family. We will continue to remember her radiating kindness, love and sincerity always.
Love you Wendy, Nanc, Gil, Ned and Peggy and Dave above.
xo always Jennifer and the rest of the Cowleys

I never saw Aunt Ned without a smile on her face and a kind word to say. Everyone needs an Aunt Nedra in their lives to remind them of how importance kindness and genuine interest in others is in the greater scheme of life. I'm so glad I had her influence and inspiration in mine! Love to all the family, Dinny

Oh, how we love the Warner Family! Our moms were such friends, and then we got to live a few doors away and became fast friends with all the kids, too. Your mother was a great example to us. Love to all of you at this tender time.

Dear Warner family -

My mom, Jeanne Hughes, loved your mom and all of her associations with her and your father, especially in Lambda Delta Sigma. Mom appreciated the work your mom did on behalf of Lambda Delta Sigma for the Church history program. My mom, like your mom, was such an elect lady, literally. I'm sure they, among many, are having a wonderful reunion and moving onto their next assignments.

I too admired and loved your mother. She was always smiling, considerate, and thinking of others. I pray you have peace this season of your life and family.
