ANSONIA: Nicholas Amico Sr., age 95, a lifelong resident of Ansonia, entered eternal rest on May 15, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of seventy-three years to Evelyn (Lewis) Amico.

Born at home in Ansonia on January 17, 1930, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Michelina Pergola Amico. Nick was a graduate of Ansonia High School class of 1947 and Quinnipiac University class of 1956. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Justice as an administrator for eight years then went on to work for thirty-nine years as the director of Human Resources for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, until his retirement. Post retirement, Nick remained active by working at Grassy Hill and Clinton Country Clubs as an assistant to the pros. Nick spent a significant amount of time supporting the City of Ansonia. He served as a member and past president of the Ansonia Police Commission for sixteen years, a member of the Board of Apportionment and Taxation for thirty-four years, member of the town committee, housing authority, school building committee, former St. Michael’s Men’s Club, Sikorsky Helicopter Society, Son’s and Daughter’s of Italy in Derby and the Ansonia Senior Center. He also served as program chairman of Prendergast PTA, past president of the Ansonia Lions Club and Unico and was a corporator for Griffin Hospital. Nick was also the co-owner of the former Ansonia Olympic Athletic Supply Sport Shop.

Nick was a devout communicant of Holy Rosary Church, a member of its Catholic men’s club, played in the bocci league, volunteered his time at the annual Italian Festa and in his earlier years taught religious education. Nick was a huge sports fan. He enjoyed golf, baseball, bocci and swimming. He was involved in the start-up of the Ansonia Pop Warner football league, where he coached and announced at the games. Nick loved spending time with his family and friends at his summer home in Milford, CT and winter home in Naples, FL. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, especially to Italy to visit relatives.
