Nick was an outstanding athlete being selected Chicago HS All City Fullback by the Chicago Tribune after Bowen HS Blue Division City Championship 1963. During the 1964 Football Season Nick suffered a severe leg fracture that ended his playing days and any of the football scholarships that were previously awarded to Nick.
