Nicholas Mastro Obituary

Mastro, Nicholas J. "Nick"
Apr 11, 1946 - Apr 9, 2021
Nicholas J. Mastro (74) slipped peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ, on April 9, 2021, just 2 days before his 75th birthday. "Nick" was born to Joseph and Lucille Mastro (deceased), April 11, 1946, in Chicago, IL. He attended Ridgewood High School in Norridge, Il, where he excelled in track and field. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, Nick joined the Army. He served as a Military Policeman in Korea during the Vietnam war. Nick married his wife of 44 years, Mary Paroubek, on November 19, 1976. His Human Resources career path moved them to Arlington, TX, where they lived for 6 years; had 2 children; Joseph and Jamie, and made lifetime friendships. The family moved to Norfolk, MA, in 1985, where Nick continued his HR work, and he and Mary added another child, Michael, to their family. Fate took them next to Sarasota, FL, where Nick became the HR Director for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in 1988. Their children all graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and started their own careers. The Mastro Clan expanded again when Joseph married (Jamie); his sister Jamie Hannon married Dan and Michael married Jenna. The ultimate joy of Nick's life came with the arrival of his 5 grandchildren; Vincent (6), Quinn (5); Lucy (4); Rocco (2); and Jason (1)!! His beloved Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series with Nick in the seats was a close second! He is also survived by his sisters Kay Pontrelli (Vito), Rosanne Tomczak (Michael), and many other family members and friends who loved and enriched his life! He was loved by all and will be forever missed!
There will be a memorial mass and celebration of Nick's life on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Church of The Incarnation at 2929 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL. Visitation from 9-10 and mass from 10-11. A live stream of the service will be available on www.incarnationchurch.org.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in honor of Nick to ANTHONY RIZZO FAMILY FOUNDATION for Pediatric Cancer www.rizzo44.com.

We are so sad to lose dear Nick because he was truly a great guy. So many memories come to our minds - our cruise to Italy and the tons of gelato we all ate, days at the beach and grilling, and trips to Mazzaros. Many of these memories involve food and that makes us remember what great meatballs Nick made! We will greatly miss you, Nick but we know you are in a better place. Sincerest condolences to all the Mastro family.

Nick was a kind soul and was a very genuine man. We met Nick in Orlando at a Keller Williams event and he and his wife Mary is a big reason we relocated to Sarasota. We will miss seeing you Nick, however, we know we will see you again when the Lord returns!

We met Nick at a local fitness club. He was always so kind and friendly with a big smile that lit up his face. We are sorry to hear of his passing and that we didn't have the opportunity to know him better. Our heartfelt condolences to his family.

Mary & Mike & family: I am so sorry to read this sad news and pray that your many memories will sustain through this hard time. If Jim and I were around we would attend but we’re heading back to Ohio for the summer. God bless you all!

So terribly sad to hear of Nick's passing. He was a trusted friend and colleague and we had many years of shared experiences, both tough and joyful during our tenure with the New York Times. I will always remember his good counsel and good humor. He loved his family dearly and was always happiest when he shared stories about them. What a loss to all of us. My deepest condolences to Mary and all of the Mastro family.
