Nichols Cannici Obituary
Sept. 22, 1921 - May 18, 2011
Nichols Donald Cannici, 89, of Sarasota, formerly of Ferndale, Mich. died May 18, 2011.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Church of the Covenant. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Marilou; son, James of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Lynn of Cambridge, Mass., Jean (Larry) Martin of Needham, Mass.; and grandchildren, Nicholas and Lulu Emmons, Andy and Trevor Martin, Laura Cannici and Alina Willson.
Nicholas was a graduate of Indiana University with an MA in music. During WWII he served in the U.S. Air Force Band. For 33 years he taught music at Ferndale, Mich. High School, eventually becoming administrator.
In 1985, Nick and Marilou retired to Sarasota where he was a member of the Sarasota Concert Band, The Bay Band and the Pelican Cove Jazz Band, playing clarinet and saxophone.
Nick was a man of energy and integrity. He loved music and his family. Our cherished memories will last forever.

Dear Marilou,
My sincere condolences to you and your beautiful family on the passing of Nick. Thursday Night Jazz at Pelican Cove was special to John and I. I have vivid memories of a group that brought happiness to many. Nick was an integral part of this group.

Dear Marilou,
Jim and I extend our sincere condolences to you at this sad time. Nick hired me as a second grade teacher at Roosevelt school and it was such a pleasure working with and for him. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched.

Dear Marilou,Jim,Lynn,and Jean,
I am truly saddened hearing of Nick's passing. He was truly a wonderful human being. One I admired as a director, professional, and a long time acquaintance. His patience and love for his job was unmatched. I am so thankful Carol and I were able to visit with you, Jean, and Nick just over a year ago on our way home from FL. Our prayers are with all of you during this mournful time. Be assured he was loved and respected while with us. I know I am a better person for simply having Nick in my life during my formative years.
