I joined the AF Reserves at age 17, in 1967. The 31st Aeromedical Sq transferred from flying propeller cargo planes at McClellan to become the 65th. Sq at Travis AFB. Captain then Major Haynes was my commanding officer. He frequently would call me while I attended UC Berkeley, to see if I would be willing to fly on a week-end to Hickam AFB, Honolulu. Lu and I were very sad to learn of Norm's passing. Ironically, she and I were just speaking of him this past weekend and the kindness he showed the then "Amn Toth" when she was loaned to 4th AF from the 940th. Had that not have happened, it's likely that she and I would not have met and later married.
