His early years on the force began with patrolling various areas of San Antonio to include downtown Foot Patrol and the Bike Patrol section. Officer Onofre Serna, Jr loved protecting the streets of downtown San Antonio as well as serving as an off-duty officer at the Riverwalk Mall. Not sure what to say?

I had the opportunity to be one of Onofre’s foot patrol partners. He was my foot patrol partner, my friend, I was sudden to hear if his passing. He was a good man.

Officer Serena was a brave first responder always prepared to spring into action. His dedication to public service was beyond reproach. He was also known downtown and was well respected amongst all who knew him. Thank you for helping me with that personal matter. I will never forget how you didn't hesitate to help me. I would always pass through the mall where I know I would see you and so we could talk a bit. Godspeed Serna. You're a good man who I considered a friend.

Rest in Peace Brother...and thanks for your service in our Blue Family

I met Onofre back in the 1980's while working for BCSO great Officer and a great person you will be greatly missed

My heart goes out to him, his wife and his family. I am going to remember every story, laughter, sadness, and everyone I got to meet. And I know how excited about where he was today in life( married and in love). Serna, you well be missed but never forgotten. You were my best friend and I am very proud of you, And out the years of story I remember. The best one was the day him and his wife became one. I know in everyone you know, you will always be in there heart. I love you Serna, you...

Sweet sweet man, you will be missed. I have always loved you for you friendship & kindness. Continue to watch over me from heaven.

Big O! You are the best and will be sorely missed. Great Police Officer, Great Friend, Great Person. We will miss you standing in front of our store at Rivercenter Mall, our conversations, your company, etc. San Antonio took a huge hit the day you left us. You were a fixture in our community. Our condolences to the Serna family. We will be praying for you. Ralph Dittmeier and the Planet Wireless crew.

Rest in peace .

I met Officer Serna many years ago at Baptist Medical Center when I was a brand new nurse. He always made a point to stop and chat for a while whenever he had to come up to our ICU, and I always enjoyed seeing him and catching up. He always made me laugh and gave me a hard time about something. It breaks my heart that he passed here with us, but I hope he knows he was surrounded by friends. I want to say to his wife, I never met you but he spoke so dearly of you and I know how much he was...
