Orion Wilcox Obituary

Orion Craig Wilcox passed away December 2, 2006 at the VA Retirement Center in Norman, OK. He was born May 23, 1911 in Oklahoma City to Hiram P. and Sicily Caroline Wilcox. On October 29, 1932 Orion married Alice Pauline Smith. His parents, brother Leslie Wilcox, sister Beulah Briley, and wife Alice preceded him in death. His survivors are daughter Carolyn Garlow and husband Dan, son Jerry Wilcox and wife Cecilia, all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Vicki Sanders and Debra Zaidi, Tim Wilcox, Lonnie Wilcox, and Michael Wilcox; 7 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew and several great nieces and great nephews. Orion began working as a sign painter for General Outdoor Advertising Co. in November 1930 and worked there until 1957 when he started his own shop, Oklahoma City Poster and Sign Service. He worked there until he retired. Orion also served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Orion will be greatly missed by all his family. The family would like to express thanks to his long time friend, Lorene Berry and the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers at the VA who all so lovingly cared for him. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, December 6th at Sunny Lane Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Sunny Lane Funeral Home Chapel and interment will immediately follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
