Oscar Blas Benavides Sr. born in Laredo, Texas on January 27, 1937 went to be with the Lord on
October 3, 2018 at the age of 81.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Laberio and Maria Benavides; and sisters, Lydia Benavides Rodriguez (Eliseo Sr.), and Hilda Benavides Rodarte (Luis).  


He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Guadalupe R. Benavides; daughter, Diana B. Tovar; sons, Oscar Benavides Jr., Rene Benavides, Raul Benavides Sr. and wife Martha Benavides, Alberto Benavides Sr. and wife Dorothy Nicasio Benavides; brother, Ruben Benavides and wife Guadalupe Lopez Benavides; sisters, Sara Benavides Garcia (Joe), and Lucy Benavides Piña and husband Herbie Piña; grandchildren, Albert Benavides Jr. and family, Lorraine Tovar, Jeannine Tovar (Joe Cruz), Anthony Benavides and family, Camile Benavides, Raul Benavides Jr. and family, and Ashley Benavides;  9 great-grandchildren;  numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 


Oscar was an Air Force Veteran and he will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.   The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors at Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital, the VA Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Team, Morningside Ministries at the Manor, and Vitas Healthcare Hospice for their care and support in their time of need.


Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM in the Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel.  Procession will depart Hillcrest Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 8:30 AM for 9:00 AM Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors (Shelter #2).
