Owene Brackenridge Menger Caruth of Dallas, Texas, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 4, 2025. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on December 22, 1937, to Johnowene Crutcher of Mineral Wells and Hubert Emil "Ham" Menger of San Antonio. Owene attended Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio for high school and went on to study at the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in Elementary Education and minored in English. While at the University, she was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Owene was also honored as a duchess in the Coronation of the Queen of the Order of the Alamo during Fiesta, marking her formal debut into San Antonio society. On August 29, 1960, Owene married William Walter Caruth Ill of Dallas, Texas, at the Trinity University Chapel in San Antonio. The couple soon settled in Dallas, where they made their home.

She was also a member of the Dallas Dinner Dance Club and the Dallas Country Club. A devoted Christian, Owene was a longstanding member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life; she never went a day without reading her Bible. At the request of parents in her Sunday school class, she continued teaching a group of young girls in her home through a ministry she called "Jesus' Little Angels." Owene will be remembered as a loving friend, a gracious hostess, and a true Southern lady. She was known for her cherished annual Christmas Tea Parties, where she brought together friends and family to celebrate the birth of Christ. She found joy in ballroom dancing, gardening, and spending time with those she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert "Ham" and Johnowene Menger of San Antonio. She is survived by her daughter, Adele Caruth Powell, and her husband, Eric Powell, of Conifer, Colorado; her sister, Roberta Menger Byrd of Dallas; her nephew, David Harold Byrd Ill, and his wife, Diane Welch Byrd; great-nephew, David Harold Byrd IV; great-niece, Tiffany Byrd Cook; and her cousin, Francis Wells. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Enrique Chacaj for his many years of devoted care and service, and to Josephine Marecha, Rosa Miranda, and Rosa Gonzalez for their loving companionship and gentle care. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 10:00 AM.
