What a remarkable human being! I have fond but distant memories of Patrick in the late-1970's when I was at Evergreen and he was my Mandarin tutor. I would often drop by his place simply to socialize or talk about East Asian history. I'm so sorry he is no longer with us - I had hoped to someday catch up. Thank you Patrick, and God bless...

Patrick rented a large room with a little kitchen in it in my house on Totten Inlet back in the eighties and surprised me by building a dory in that room as well as living in it. Soon afterwards he built a beautiful house in the forest where all of his children thrived and visiting was a privilege I loved. We also shared a funky house in Olympia for one winter with our friend Sam Bradley, RIP, who was a shrink, which came in handy. Patrick was the nicest father I ever knew, and his kids...

I had Dr Cavendish as my Mandarin professor in Pierce College in 1990. I recall he was a respectful, humorous and a well learned man . I enjoyed being his student and collaborator in some small projects. I will never forget him. Peace to him and condolences to the family, Robert Matson
