I remember watching a strange new student at Kenyon College. We called him Dippy Dippo-LI-to. He had a beard and a strange gait. Before long we discovered that his first name was Paul, last name was pronounced Dip-POL-ito, and that he was not only brilliant, but a truly nice and good and fascinating person. Before long he was living at our fraternity. I remember his music system. We all dreamed of owning a stylish KLH portable. He had a board with a series of unusual loudspeakers bolted to it. One time another fraternity threw a piano out of a fifth floor window. We rescued the abused innards and set them up as a giant harplike artwork in our lounge. Paul plucked each string. Then, having memorized all their now seriously distorted pitches, proceeded to play it as if it were some unusual, perfectly tuned, instrument.
I'm sorry I missed the rest of his life. I'm both saddened and heartened to hear how well he played on.

We only knew Randy for a short time, but he'd already touched our hearts. He always greeted us with a smile and a hello when we came to visit our son, Ben. We will certainly miss him. Our whole family extends our deepest sympathies on your loss.

Paul and I shared a suite our senior year at Kenyon. Among many fond memories, I remember most Paul prescribing just the right music needed to meet the emotional need of the moment. I am so sorry for our loss.

We are saddened by the sudden passing of Cousin Randy. We know that he will be at peace in the arms of our loving Savior. I treasure the memories of a fun-loving and brilliant cousin who delighted in teasing his loved ones.

Randy's devotion to doing the most with what he had was an inspiration to me. Never bitter, or complaining for the challenges he'd been given, he pushed as best he could, and to me, better than I would likely have done in his shoes. We should all be so strong.
