Dear Ruth, Rick, Rob, Nancy and family. My father,Eddie Kaplan, was a good friend of Paul's. Several years ago, right after my father's death, Paul sent me some photos of my dad playing the violin on Iwo Jima. He also wrote me a touching and much appreciated letter. I have been doing some research on my father, and just happened to come across this site. I am sorry for your loss. My father talked often about Paul, and their time spent together during and after the war.

Mr. Phipps was a people person. He loved having people around. He was a very generous and giving person. Mr. Phipps was so welcoming to all us runners on Marathon Morning. From my very first Boston marathon in 2003 right up through 2012, he welcomed all of us and fed us breakfast. Here I was in 2003 running the Boston Marathon for the first time, really overwhelmed and feeling out of my league. Mr. Phipps assured me I was right where I belonged and that I'd do well in my race. lots of heartfelt memories, of mr,phipps and your family,back in the day,rob,rich,and ronnie.remember, like yesterday,hanging around the phipps house,playing ball,in the garage,up in the attic area, of the garage, our hide-out!I was a Tiger Too! I drive by Holy cross, football,baseball fields often,and ill always remember the football game that,mr.phipps, took a bunch of us Tigers too.he was a kind man.many nice memories, from the phipps family. god bless to all.
