I met Peggy in 1999 when I was a school outreach librarian for the New York Public Library servicing schools on the UWS and Harlem. She was always so kind and encouraging and was instrumental getting me into classrooms and helping me gain contacts at other schools. I owed her a lot in helping me, mentoring me and introducing me to other school librarians. Coincidentally, a close friend of mine was the children's librarian at the New York Society Library and when we both discovered that we both knew a Peggy Salwen we realized that New York really was a small world after all! Peggy seemed to know everyone! Memorably I remember that she mentioned that she was good friends and neighbors with author Paula Danziger and I was AGOG! It was because of Peggy that I got to meet her. When Peggy ultimately came back to NYPL I was so happy to see her and call her a colleague. Truly one of the best people I have ever worked with at NYPL.

I am saddened to learn of Peggy´s passing. We were in elementary and high school together and considered her a precious friend. My condolences to her family. You are missed sweet lady.

I worked with Peggy at the Webster Branch. A great person and librarian. She always had a smile abd uplifted the room. She will be missed, but always in our hearts.
