Peter Kiro Obituary

Peter John Kiro, 74, of East Hartford, loving husband of 54 years of Dorothea "Dotty" E. (Bowers) Kiro, peacefully entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 26, 2015 with his caring family by his side at St. Francis Hospital, Harford. Born in Hartford on June 23, 1940, a son of the late Peter and Veronica (Fitzgerald) Kiro, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Peter was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1958 and played softball for several years in the East Hartford Men's Slow-Pitch Softball League. Prior to his recent retirement, Peter was employed for 27 years by Fischer Precision Spindles, Inc. in Berlin as a Vice President of Sales. Peter enjoyed helping people and volunteering, as proven by being a long-time volunteer and coach for East Hartford Little League and was the main architect of Gorman Park Little League Stadium. He was also a former coach and General Manager of several years for the East Hartford American Legion Baseball teams. Peter was the originator of Eagle Field at East Catholic High School in Manchester and was inducted into the East Catholic Hall of Fame in 1997 for his work and support. He was also inducted into the Greater Hartford Twi-Light Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2008. Peter also was active in helping the Jimmy Fund in the area with Mike Andrews and the late Frank Benettieri and was a member of the former East Hartford Elks Lodge #2063. Most of all, Peter was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, and visiting the Florida Keys and fishing. Besides his devoted wife Dotty, Peter is survived by two sons, Peter W. Kiro and his wife, Mary Jane, of Nashua, NH, Timothy J. Kiro and his wife, Danielle, of East Hartford; his sister, Judith "Judy" Kiro Raffalo and her husband, Robert, of Old Saybrook; four cherished grandchildren, Kristin Kiro of Middletown, Kory Kiro of Goffstown, NH, Keven Kiro of Nashua, NH, and Matthew Kiro of East Hartford. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Marilyn B. Don of Manchester; five nieces, Valerie Sweeney of Coventry, Stephanie Anderson of Vernon, Laurie Hennigan of Manchester, Gina Phillips of Waterford, Tracey Terlizzi of Florida; a nephew, A.J. Terlizzi of Niantic; and many dear friends.
