Mrs. Phyllis Hill Ferguson transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2021. She was born to the late Raymond E. & Louvenia B. Hill in Gastonia, North Carolina, on July 20, 1954. She graduated from Ashbrook High School, Class of 1972. She attended Gaston College in which she was a member of the Student Government Association (SGA).
Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, sister, teacher, friend, and Aiden's "Gigi." She loved her family and friends and had a passion for cooking and baking. Whether it was opening her home for dinners or preparing meals to take to family or friends, her love for others was always demonstrated through an act of kindness.
She was a teacher's assistant at Newell Elementary School where she enjoyed molding the minds of small children. She was a member of the Park Church under the leadership of Bishop Claude Richard Alexander, Jr., where she was a Pacesetter. She also served on the First Impressions Ministry as a greeter on the first Sunday of each month. In her younger years she was a member of Center Baptist Church, Gastonia, North Carolina. Phyllis' earthly body is no longer with us, but her encouragement, her laughter, and her smile will always be remembered.
Preceding her in death are her parents and two brothers, Robert E. Hill and Philbert Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Willie A. Ferguson (Tony); son, Cameron A. Ferguson; daughter, Nerissa H. Smith; son-in-law, Shawn L. Smith, and grandson, Aiden J. Smith. Also left to cherish fond memories are three sisters: Mrs. Doris H. Reid (Walker Reid, III), Mrs. Lavon T. Brown and Ms. Mae Helen Glenn, all of Gastonia, North Carolina; four brothers: Mr. Alfred Hill (Linda), Mr. James Hill (Annette), and Mr. Elmore Hill (Sara), all of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Mr. Lamar Hill (Eunice) of Temple Hill, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Demetria Graham of Charleston, South Carolina; and a special aunt, Sarah Diamond of Columbia, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Phyllis was such a great friend to all. I worked with her at Newell until I retired. She always shared helpful advice and loved everyone! She really cared about each child in the school, not just the ones in her classes. She will be missed! I just found out about her passing tonight, Feb. 20,2021. I will be praying for all of her family and friends!
