I never knew Pursie personally, my father Bob Clayton worked for PEP Drilling for over 15years and never had a bad thing to say about him and was a very proud employees of his company until an accident caused him not to be able to return to work in the oilfields. But growing up PEP Drilling was a part of my life and the many stories you encounter from the men who worked for his company. My condolences to the family. it would seem he lived a very rewarding life.

Pursie was my uncle, and always upbeat, with lots of energy, and fun to be with. He was always there for my family, when his brother had a heart attack, Pursie came to the hospital several times to help. It seems he was there when we needed him, and he always added comfort to us when we needed it. He was a one of a kind person, I will miss him greatly.

So proud to have been a small part of his life. He taught me how to play golf as I caddied for him over four years in the mid 60's in Mt. Vernon, IL and throughout Southern Illinois. He and my Dad, Jim Carter, were a good team in the oil business, my dad was the promoter and PEP drilled the wells! God bless the Pipes family.

On behalf of the Southern Illinois Golf Association's Board of Directors and all the members of the Golfing community here in Southern Illinois, we would like to send our condolences to Pursie's family. Looking back to the Hall of Fame gathering in 2009 at Crab Orchard, it was a wonderful evening with Pursie, Bill Koeneman, Jim Kirk and several others telling stories of time past. We will all miss him, his legacy will live on for years to come.
