RANDOLPH FOX Obituary

RANDOLPH FOX
After a long and difficult illness, Randolph Val Fox passed away peacefully, on January 25, 2014 with his loving wife of 32 years, Elise, by his side.  Randy, as he was known by family and friends, was born in New Orleans, LA on September 23, 1931, where he grew up and his love of the water and sailing began on Lake Pontchartrain. He was a National Honor Society member at Fortier High School before attending Duke University on a Naval ROTC scholarship and was also a member of SAE Fraternity. Upon graduation, he entered the US Navy as an ensign during the Korean conflict. He then took a front seat to history as his service brought him to the Marshall Islands in the Pacific where he took part in the highly classified, "Operation Castle", and later off Cuban waters where he and his crew photographed Russian ships secretly carrying missiles bound for Cuba. After an honorable discharge in 1962, he went to work in the printing paper business. He raised a family and continued to pursue his love of sailing and fishing. In 1982 he laid to rest his first wife of 27 years, Anita. Randy retired as an executive with Georgia Pacific in 1994. He spent his retirement years enjoying family and friends, his home in Florida and sailing the Chesapeake Bay on his Island Packet. He was also an avid reader and huge college football fan and a sponsor to a Navy Midshipmen. Randy will be greatly missed by his wife, Elise Nelson Fox; his three children, Randolph E. Fox of Madison, WI, Mrs. Leslie B. Fox of Spartanburg, SC and Mrs. Louise Fox Viadero of Ashburn, VA; and his two stepsons, David B. Nelson of Ft. Myers, FL and Mark A. Nelson of Davidsonville, MD. In addition, he leaves behind 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. In the evening when the sun sets on the Chesapeake Bay his family will think of him "slipping the bounds of earth and becoming a new star in our universe".  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, located on 1120 Spa Rd., Annapolis, MD at 11 a.m., with a reception following at the Annapolis Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a contribution to the American Heart Association (1-800-242-8721). Online condolences may be made at: www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com
