Ray Junior "Babe" Travis

Newton - Ray Junior "Babe" Travis, 75, of Newton, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Mr. Travis was born Sept. 4, 1933, in Catawba County to the late Jones and Ola Jane Killian Travis. He was a member of East First Baptist Church, Newton, and was retired from the furniture industry. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Benfield, Thelma Hinson, Eva Miller and Dorothy Travis, and brothers, Glen Travis, William Travis and Fred Travis. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Watts Travis; daughters, Debbie Herman and husband, Leonard, of Hickory, and Janie Bollinger and husband, Wayne, of Mountain View; sons, Tony Travis and wife, Shelly, of Claremont, Keith Travis of Newton and Jonas Travis and wife, Teresa, of Spartanburg, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. A service of remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover, with the Rev. David Lyda officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Newton. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Conover prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Tony A Travis, John D. Benfield, Gary Bollinger, Wesley Bollinger, Jonas Gilbert and Norman Herman. Memorials may be made to East First Street Baptist Church, 703 E.
