Raymond LeRoy Thimmes

LANCASTER: Raymond LeRoy Thimmes, passed away Wednesday, July 03, 2013 at Fairfield Medical Center at the age of 82. He was the only child of Francis and Eva Thimmes. Raymond was born March 8th, 1931 in Wyndotte, Michigan.

He graduated from Lancaster High School, the class of 1950. Ray joined the Ohio National Guard in 1950 until 1956. For 35 years he was the butcher at Irenes Supperette on South Broad St. in Lancaster. Later he worked at North American Rockwell and then retired from Anchor Hocking Packaging in 1994. He was a member of the Lancaster Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing golf and was credited with having 2 hole in ones. Ray also enjoyed playing cards with all his good friends at the Eagles and Hide-Away-Hills.

Raymond leaves behind his oldest son, Jeff (Kim) Thimmes, son Todd Thimmes, one daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) DeLong, grandchildren; Rachel and Jordan Thimmes, Cindy Thimmes, Tara Byers, Tori Thimmes, Kelli (John) McMaster, Cory (Aubrey) Apperson, and six great-grandchildren, also survived by Gary and Sharon Short, many nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Ann Anderson Thimmes in 1993, son Casey Thimmes in 2004, father and mother, Francis and Eva Thimmes, his aunt Irene Eaton, who raised Raymond from age 12, uncle and aunt, Glenn and Edith Eaton, brothers-in-law Robert Anderson, Jerry Anderson and sister-in-law Jean Shockley.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home with Rev. Harold R. Sturm officiating. Burial will be at Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Sunday, July 7, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Orthodox Lutheran Church, Lancaster in Raymond's memory. On-line condolences may be made at www.haltemanfettdyer.com
