Rebecca Veatch Obituary

Rebecca L. (Tunnell) Veatch

Rebecca L. (Tunnell) Veatch passed away surrounded by friends and family on Friday, October 8, 2010. Becky was the beloved mother of four children and loving wife of Michael Veatch. She left this life after a courageous eight month battle with sarcoma cancer. Despite the difficulty of her struggle, Becky maintained a positive, upbeat attitude and laughed all the way to the end.
Becky was born on January 7, 1980 in Fairbanks, Alaska. She graduated from Snohomish High School in 1998. Her high school nick-name, "Amazon Woman", exemplified her talent for tackling every obstacle that stood in her way. After high school, Becky attended massage therapy school in Orem, Utah and graduated at the head of her class. It was there that she met Michael and married him in the Mt. Timpanogas LDS Temple a mere four months later.
After helping support her husband through college, Becky was a stay at home mom by choice. She loved her children with all of her heart and loved to see them laugh and play. Becky always had a ready smile and faced trials and difficulties with optimism and good humor. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, sewing for her children, doing fun things as a family and just having a good time with those that she loved. Becky was always thinking of ways to make people feel special. She enjoyed shopping the sales at Target and rarely paid full price for anything. She was never late paying a bill and her frugality was legendary. Her goal was for her family to live within their means so she could be a stay at home mom in order to spend time with their children.
Becky was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She relied on the Lord throughout her struggle with cancer and gained strength from the many prayers in her behalf. Over the past eight months, she saw the hand of her Heavenly Father as he blessed her family in many ways. She fought the battle courageously and often wowed her doctors with her positive attitude and will-power.
She will be missed by her husband, Michael; and her four children, Madelynn, Abigail, Natalie and Conner. She is also survived by her parents, James and Linda Tunnell; and her siblings, Annalia Romero, Sarah Kang, Rachel Tunnell and James Tunnell.
Her older brother, Jonathan, set an example of courage and faith in fighting his own battle with cancer seventeen years ago. She was the proud aunt of 34 nieces and nephews. She took great delight in instigating tickle fights with them, which she always won.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 16, at the LDS Chapel in Lake Stevens at 10120 Chapel Hill Rd. The viewing begins at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family members are encouraged to bring memories and stories about Becky on 4 x 6 cards.

Our family was socked to hear the news about Becky. I remember when the family moved into the house which was one door down from us and how all the children became such good friends on that very first day. Your family became my children's second family. We were sad when you moved away, not to be able to see our children grow up together. We were blessed to have you as neighbors and friends.

We are so sorry for your lost. Becky was the sweetest girl and I know she will always be with you, looking down from the heavens, being the angel she always was.

Out love and sympathy to Jim and Linda and the rest of the Tunnell family and especialy to Mike and the kids.

Dent and I were out of town and missed Becky's services. I didn't know Becky very well, but still felt of her special spirit - I have thought of her so much during the last months and especially during the last couple of weeks. Our love and sympathy to Jim and Linda and Mike and the kids.

Where to start....
I truely feel GOD puts a person in your life for a reason. I instantly connected with becky and spent many days and nights with mike and becky but whom wouldn't want to. Becky was a person that could teach you so much and was never down about anything she found light in every situation. I truely enjoyed working with her and still see her at work and when mike would come visit how her face would light up. Her love for friends, family and just life will be remembered. I am still learning from her in the movies that mike has posted up on facebook and how even though she was going thru so much still had time to go to the park, read stories and sing to her kids. That is something I'm trying to do more of. My prayers are with mike and the girls. There isn't a day/second that goes by that she isn't on my mind and I know she is our angel now and is watching over all of us until we all meet again.
Love you girl!

It has been many years since I crossed Becky’s path. Her brother James was a dear friend of mine in high school, and through that friendship I got to know Becky. I never spent much time with her, but on the rare occasion that my life was blessed by her presence; I got to see her smile. She had a face that lit up the room, and a laugh that was contagious. My heart goes out to the entire Tunnell and Veatch family. I am so very sorry for your loss. Love and blessings for you all.

Dear Veatch and Tunnell Family,
Why some of us win the battle against cancer and other fight harder and don't is hard to understand, we just need to know that the Lord love each of us and knows what the future holds. I feel blessed for just knowing Becky and being a witness to her life. What a wonderful life she live, what courage she had, what an example she is to all of us. She will be missed. Love you all.

I knew Becky through her parents, Jim and Linda Tunnell, when we were in the Spring Ward in Spring, TX. She was a little girl back then. But I reconnected with her on FaceBook. She looked just as cute as she did as a little girl. It was great seeing pictures of her husband and children. I knew Jonathan, her older brother and his battle with cancer as well. Becky will be missed. She reminded me of my Mom, very courageous and a great love of the Lord.

I have always loved every one of the Tunnells. We've been so blessed to be able to find each other again. I missed my birthday-girlfriend for many years, and now I've got her back. I love you so much, Linda.

I wanted to tell Mike how much I love him and know that he will be a fabulous father. I've seen him work with the children, playing the guitar, and so many other things. You will truly be blessed as you are now the mother and father. Please know that I will be happy to babysit if you need me. I'm only 10 minutes away.

To Madelynn, you were the first, and you have such a beautiful, warm smile and so many talents. It will be fun to watch you grow up and honor your mother with your many accomplishments.

Love always, Aunt Candy

I became friends with Rebecca's husband Mike almost ten years ago. He would always tell these amazing stories about her while we attended the state academy together. It wasnt until I had the opprotunity of meeting her in person, that I relized they were truly meant for each other. I will forever remember the dinner and video game nights at the veatch's house. She was a very kind and sincere woman that touched anyone she came in contact with. My heart goes out to Mike and the children.

I never got to meet Becky, but I know her brother- and I feel like I have gotten to know her through her wonderful family. Becky has inspired and touched people far beyond her physical reach- may her memory continue to do so.

Much love to her family at this time!

My dear sweet Becky, I miss you so
My love for you will continue to grow
Your heart-melting smile; your warm embrace
To continue without you brings tears to my face

Your desires and wishes I'll always hold dear
The promises made I'll keep year after year
My memories of you give me strength deep inside
The lessons we learned I'll use as my guide

May your sweet love forever reside in my heart
In spirit, I wish you'd never depart
Please comfort my sadness with your presence divine
Break through my dark cloud with your heavenly shine

In honor of you, my chin will be high
Determined I'll walk with a resolute eye
Lovingly teaching our kids hand in hand
So that again, together, a family we'll stand
