Shortly after arriving at Congregation Beth El, I had the honor of speaking with Richard by phone. I was impressed by his resolute nature, the sincerity of heart and determination of character that echoed in his words and tone of voice. His generosity toward the congregation provided necessary financial support for my ability to serve as rabbi. I never met Richard in person but had the honor of speaking with him on the phone not long after I had come to Bennington and Congregation Beth El to begin my work as rabbi here and shortly before his untimely death. Richard was the best friend and business mentor I could have dreamed of. Richard and Pam´s kindness has shaped our town in southern Vermont.

Dick and I never got to know each other well, yet we met many times through tennis and had a mutual interest in NJTL. I had planned to attend the memorial service this past Tuesday but came down with a bad cold - a result of too much heat and air conditioning the second week of the Open. His genuine interest in helping young people through tennis - whether it be in Vermont or through the USTA Foundation, and his advocacy for NJTL within the Foundation were actions that spoke louder than...
