Richard Allred Obituary

Richard Allred

High Point

September 8, 1962 - July 6, 2025

Richard Scott Allred, age 62, left this earth for his heavenly home July 6, 2025. Scott was the son of the late Grady T. Allred Jr., and wife, Helen Bryson Allred. The youngest of five children, he thrived and enjoyed the close family life. Scott said being the youngest was an advantage because watching his brother and sisters go before him, he quickly learned what not to do; although with his childhood best friend, Matthew Mizelle, together they found ways to get into trouble. Scott was an avid student of military tactics and studied all wars starting with the War between the States to the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Col. John Sloan Camp, SCV. He was a gamer who challenged other war gamers across the US on a daily basis. He especially loved his nieces and nephews and proudly enjoyed watching them grow into adulthood.

Scott worked in the cafeteria industry all his life, first with K&W Cafeterias, Inc., and then J&S Cafeterias, Inc., both family-owned businesses. The "S" in J&S stood for his name and for his sister, Susan. Scott worked in several areas of the cafeterias and was a member of the J&S Board of Directors until his early retirement due to health reasons.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Grady Thomas Allred Jr. and Helen Bryson Allred, and niece, Leslie Curlee Cochran. He is survived by his brother, Jim Allred and wife Jean Allred; sisters, Ann Nowlan and husband Fagg Nowlan, Susan McMahan, Janet Curlee and husband Brendon Curlee, and three nephews and six nieces.

Scott was a devoted and generous brother, uncle, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. As one friend said, "Scott was a very kind soul" and another said, "he was a gentle giant with a heart to match."

A small family gathering will inter his ashes in a private ceremony at Emerywood Baptist Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations should be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation; www.t2t.org.
