Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard Dick Anderson, 79, of East Sandwich, passed away after a long illness (pulmonary fibrosis). Dick was born in Taunton, to Genie and Hjalmar Anderson in 1936. He graduated from Taunton High in 1953 and enlisted in the USMC. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. and then in 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Crowninshield) Anderson. After his service in the United States Marine Corp Dick and Joan then moved to Raynham. In 1964 they moved to Sandwich where Dick continued to work for General Work Clothes, driving daily to Connecticut for his delivery route. After several years he went to work at Riverview School in East Sandwich as Superintendent of maintenance. When Dick was 34 he enlisted in the police academy, just making the age limit. He became a Police officer and served for 25 years on the Sandwich Police Department. After retiring from the Sandwich Police Department Dick and Joan moved to Naples, Fl. where they enjoyed 20 years of vacation. When Dicks illness was becoming more serious they moved back to Cape Cod to be near their children. At the time of his death, Dick and Joan were staying with their son David and his wife Anna, at their home in East Sandwich. Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan (Crowninshield) Anderson and his sister Susan (Anderson) Selby. He is also survived by his four children, Richard W., (Martha), Robert (Robin) Karen (Anderson) Resnick (Steve) and David J. (Anna). Also he is survived by grandchildren - Katie, Kelly, Matthew, Caleb, Jesse, Jamal, Adam, Chris and AJ great-grandchildren Addison, Audrey, Kaydan, Bianca, Aidan, Liam, and Brooks with one more great-grandchild to be born to Katie next week. The family of Dick and Joan Anderson would like to thank their many friends for the kind words, memories and expressions of condolence we have received during this period. We would also like to thank the Hope Hospice organization, the aides that assisted Dick and his family at home and all those special people at the Mary McCarthy House here in Sandwich. This is an organization which we just cant say enough wonderful things about. If you are so inclined we ask that any remembrances in Dicks name be made to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Rd., East Sandwich, Ma. 02537. A private family funeral service will be held at the National Cemetery on Friday, September 4th. Friends may share condolences and sign the register book online at www.nickersonbournefuneralhome.com.

Very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I am proud to say that I worked with Dick for many years on the Sandwich Police Department. He was a heck of a man and a terrific back up as you would expect from a Marine. On duty or off Dick was always willing to help whenever you needed it. He was a very talented man.

He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Joan and Dick's entire family.

Dave & Rick,

Sorry to hear of your father's passing . I always liked him and got along well with him. He was the one that told me about his son's, the very talented Framers, and that I should use them on future jobs, this was 1981, and you know the rest of the story.
