Richard Davis Obituary

TUSCALOOSA Richard Lasco Davis Jr., age 79, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 3, 2012, at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Vance Cemetery with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Davis Sr.; his mother, Pearlie Mae Davis; his great-grandchild, Katie Freda; his brothers, John Davis and Mack Davis; and his sisters, Bertha Glaze and Naderia Avery.

Survivors include his wife, Eva A. Davis of Columbus, Miss.; his daughters, Teresa M. Cook and Kathy M. Doty, both of Columbus, Miss., and Pamela A. Livingston of Fitchburg, Mass.; his sons, Wayne V. Davis of Columbus, Miss., Daniel P. Freda of Oneonta, and Edward G. Freda of El Paso, Texas; his grandchildren, Tracy Frye, Danny W. Livingston, Christy Freda, Cary Freda, Michell Freda, Marlana Palmeiro, Gary Freda, Tiffany Freda, Sara Freda, Wayne V. Davis Jr., Richard P. Davis, Nicholas W. Davis, Lorenda L. Davis, Christopher Wright, Candie Davis, Tracie Morgan, Justin Cook, Seth Cook, Jan Doty, and Daniel Doty; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel Livingston, Zack Livingston, Ava Davis, Payton Davis, Trent Davis, Rachel Davis, Leah Davis, Caleb Walker, Christian Walker, Michael Stapp, Brian Swindol, Kenneth Frye, Alaina Wright, Shana Diggs, Shouna Diggs, Juliana Mirabel, Haylee and Kaytlynn Hernandez, and Kiera, Jayden, and Ashtyn Lewis.

He raised six children and served 22 years in the U.S. Army. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour of duty in Korea and received three Purple Hearts. He served the rest of his career as a medic.

Pallbearers will be Richard Davis, Wayne Davis Jr., Nicholas Davis, Wade Ryland, Christopher Wright, and Wayne Ryland.

Honorary pallbearers are Nurse Teresa from Freedom Hall at the VA Medical Center and Jim Richardson, the Veterans' Service Officer in Columbus, Miss.

Some people have the ability to inspire people and never know it. Uncle Dave was the person that inslired me.I remember ya'll coming to the dairy farm in Columbus and sneeeking up one night and watching a slideshow of his time in Korea. Let me know if ya'll need anything. Love ya'll very much.

I didn't get the privilege of knowing my second cousin, but wish I had. My dad Woodrow Davis, Jr went to visit him a couple of weeks ago. My prayers are with the family.
