Not sure what to say?

First "ran" into Coach Greeno during his summer all-comer track and field meets in Sioux Falls during the late 60's. As our school did not have a track, we would come to practice events during the summer. He was a tremendous gift to the area track and field community and his family should be very proud of all his contributions.

Freeman Academy ('71)

I just read of Coach Greeno's passing.
My heart hurt.
Coach Greeno was my Coach, 1968-69 at
Lincoln High School. I was Sophomore.
In only that one year, before we moved away, he instilled great values in me, that 15-16 year olds need to hear and see. Honesty, Integrity, Humility, Perseverance and Self Worth. Many times in the past 48 years I have called on these values.
That is what was great about him to me, he was right with us, in the heat of the moment. Whether in...

It was a sad day when I learned of Coach Greeno's passing. My family was so lucky to have this kind man be our coach. We learned so much more than track and field from Coach Greeno. He taught us respect, compassion and dedication to things beyond ourselves.

My brothers, Mack and Vance Butler, and my sister Anne, and I were so fortunate to be part of a Rich Greeno team. I just hope Coach took a stop watch with him so that he can shout out the splits to Mack and Vance who are up there...

SO many good memories came flooding back on learning of Coach Greeno's passing. He was an incredible man. I owe so much to his influence as do my brothers, Mack and Vance Butler and my sister Anne. We all got so much out of being part of a Rich Greeno team.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Greeno family as they deal with his passing. I wish I had learned of this in time - I would have done all I could to be at the service. I hope Coach Greeno has a stop watch with him so he can...

During my track and X-Country years with two great coaches Dan Lennon - USD 64-66 and Don Baker -Southern State College, Springfield 66-69; I met another great coach Rich Greeno. Many weekends Rich would visit Baker and the three of us would jog on the country roads . Years later, after Baker and Lennon passed away, coach Greeno and I met at track meets. He called me "Baker's Boy". Influenced by these three mentors I became a coach and teacher too.

Rest In Peace Uncle Rich.

One of the best coaches I have ever had. Also one of the best men I've ever known.

I have so much respect and admiration for Coach Greeno. So grateful to have had him as track & field coach at Lincoln HS '76-'78. Still running today because of the example of health and fitness he set. My condolences to the loved ones for their loss of this wonderful man.

What fond memories we all had of Coach Greeno workouts. Thursday's was always my biggest challenge. (15) 440's with a 220 jog..... yes a jog in between each quarter mile. He was a Stewart of making men out of us, when we were still thinking of our prom dates. He was a gentleman's gentleman. I have brought up my children to the values I learned from this gifted man. He will be happier now with his lovely wife Rosemary ,but let it be known his legacy will live on through generations. Iam...
