I met Dick about a dozen years ago during my tenure as Chair of the Long Trail School Board. We quickly found common ground in our love of Vermont and American History, particular the American Revolution. He remains one of those unique historical writers combining meticulous research with the uncommon ability to tell a good story. I had the privilege of knowing Dick years ago while working for him and Bill Blair at Country Journal Magazine, he was larger than life in my opinion, so intelligent, so kind and thoughtful. May God be with him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

All of the Madkours are very sorry about Richard's passing. He was a very dear man whom we were all very fond of. He will be missed.

To the Ketchum Family, I am so sorry for your lost. I am the man that was in the hospital bed next to Richard 2weeks ago and when he got out. I saw this today and it was hard for me to take as I can remember some of the things we talked about while we were together, at Flecher Allen.I wish I had know he was such a writer, I wpould have like to talked to him about it I enjoy listening to peolpes facts of life .
