RICHARD NITSCH Obituary

RICHARD RICH EUGENE NITSCH Richard "Rich" Eugene Nitsch, 64, died unexpectedly on March 15, 2018 at Research Medical Center. A native Kansan, Rich was born in Emporia, grew up in Salina, and resided in Leawood. He earned degrees from Emporia State University and Kansas State University. Energetic, passionate, and hard-working, Rich entered the FBI after teaching high school history for 11 years. As a Special Agent, he attained the distinguished rank of Certified Intelligence Officer. After retiring from a 24 year career with the FBI. Rich resumed working both as a federal contractor for the Bureau and as an educator. Holding a Doctorate in Education from Arizona State University, Rich taught online undergraduate and graduate level courses in Criminal Justice and Intelligence. Larger than life aptly describes Rich. He was a loyal and caring man who always put others before himself. Rich touched hundreds of lives, provided a role model for many young people, and belonged to Leawood Baptist Church. He served on the Band Boosters Board at Shawnee Mission East where his daughter, Natalie, is a drum major. Rich was frequently seen driving his 1955 Thunderbird, smiling and waving behind the wheel. Through coaching and officiating, Rich combined his lifelong passion for wrestling and devotion to helping youth. Known as Coach to many, including wrestlers at Indian Hills Middle School and a two-time Olympian and World Champion, Rich organized numerous wrestling camps and actively participated in the Kansas City Wrestling Club. A cheerful and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Rich loved his family dearly and took great pride in their accomplishments. He brought much joy, humor, and laughter into their lives, as well as those in his extended family and circle of friends. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Millie, and older brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Susan Schillie Nitsch, daughter Natalie, and twin sons Justin "Son A" (wife Casie) and Chad "Son B" (husband Chris) who affectionately called their Dad "Bop." Rich is also survived by his grandchildren Adalyn and Emmett, brothers Darrell, Danny, and Russell, best friend Chip Barger, and Buddy, his beloved Basset Hound. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Rich at the home on Friday, March 23rd, from 4-6 pm. Everyone who loved Rich is invited. So that's everyone who knew Rich. The atmosphere will be upbeat, and the celebration will be held in the backyard. Dress is casual. To honor Rich's legacy, the Kansas City Wrestling Club has established the Rich Nitsch Wrestling Scholarship Fund to give all future wrestlers the opportunity to join the Club. Contributions may be sent to the Rich Nitsch Wrestling Scholarship Fund c/o Kansas City Wrestling Club, 9030 High Drive, Leawood, KS 66206.

It´s been four years. Thinking of my old partner in the FBI. A great Agent and a great person. Boy did we have some laughs in between and during our case work. No matter what time of day or night you needed him, he would be there. I remember the big smile and handshake when I walked into the squad for the first time. Certain things only we could talk about. Boy do I miss him.

Just heard this sad news. Rich was a really great guy and treated me well when I was a young Detective assigned over to the FBI Task Force. May he rest in peace.

I didn't know Rich for very long, three months at most. I had the pleasure of working with him as a wrestling official at my very first Junior Varsity tournament this past season. I can't find the words to express exactly how helpful he was as a fellow official and mentor that first day. His passion for wrestling and the people involved with the sport were very apparent from the moment he introduced himself to me. I had the pleasure of conversing with him on a few more occaisons through the conclusion of the Kid's Federation season this year; his demeanour never changed, always smiling and joking. He was a joy to know, even if it was only briefly. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am deeply sorry to hear about Rich but I know that he lives in all of us that were fortunate to know him. I knew Rich as a wrestling official and his approach to officiating was "always be professional and have fun", he did both with ease. He joked all he needed was 90% to pass the wrestling test so he only needed to be 90% good. Once during a junior high meet he told his wrestler that the opponent saw the size of his arms and scared him off the mat and that's why he had a forfeit. Classic Rich humor. Rich you're going to be missed and I am so glad to have known you.

I met Rich through the Band Boosters, but did not know him very long nor very well. Even so, I always enjoyed and looked forward to our visits and found him to be a very interesting gentleman, with plenty of stories of his wrestling background and very distinguished career in the FBI. I was very sorry to learn of his passing, and will miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out for Susan and the family.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Nitsch's family. I was fortunate to be assigned as a Task Force Officer to the KC Office of the FBI in the 1990's. I worked for Mr. Nitsch a couple of years in his squad. He was a very fair supervisor. His easy smile and easy laughter made me want to succeed at whatever my task happened to be. He was in the restore stage of his T-Bird at that time trying to order parts from all over the country. I'm glad he got to enjoy it. He was truly a good man and Im glad I got to work with him.

My deepst condolences to Rich Nitsch's family. I was fortunate enough to be assigned as a task force officer in Mr. Nitsch's squad at the KC office of the FBI in the 1990's. He was in the rebuilding stage on his T-Bird then. I am glad he got it finished. He was a very fair supervisor to work for. He had an easy friendly smile and easy honest laugh. He will be missed by many.

Honored to call him my friend for 35 years. He has great character and was a character too. Hardest working man I've ever met. We lost one of the great ones and he left a wonderful legacy of family and friends that are better for him being part of their lives.

I will always remember the mornings he brought a little 3 year old Nattie to school, exited his car just to help me bring out the heavy benches from inside our coat room. Then he'd return to his car and wait until I would come get little Nattie out. His parting words were always this "Learn some thin' Rat! And Mrs. S you have a great day!" We love and cherish our friendship with our beautiful Nitsches. God rest your soul our beloved friend. Heaven is all the better with you now in it. Nitsch family, please feel our loving embrace and know we are profoundly sorry for your tremendous loss. The Sabatés family.

It was my good fortune to have Rich as my FBI section leader when I attended the 167th session of the F.B.I. Academy ,September- December,1991. He helped us to understand what was important, and what wasn't during the 11 week process.
Sincerely,Captain Randy Lockmiller,Knoxville Police Department,retired.
