Richard William Pohl

Richard William Pohl Richard William Pohl, a resident of Austin since 1949, was born April 21, 1916 and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, October 12, 2010. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa and grew up in the Depression era Midwest with a great sense of dedication and strong values. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the start of World War II serving as a lieutenant in the Artillery Corps. He fought in four battles including: Normandy on June 6th, Central Europe, Rhine River and the Bulge. He was extremely proud of his military service and was recognized by receiving various medals including the Liberte from the French Government. The family is extremely grateful for the special care and concern extended by the staff of Cornerstone Hospital of Austin especially his nephews Dr. David Pohl and Dr. James Pohl and through residencies at Regency Schulenburg and Retirement and Nursing Center of Austin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Orr Pohl; sisters, Thelma J. Pohl, Berniece P. Ross; brothers, Dr. Louis K. Pohl and Dr. Donald E. Pohl. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Manny Linares of Austin and Susan and Michael Lenora of London, England; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. Pohl, Jr. and Mary Jane Pohl of Austin and Daniel O. Pohl and Nancy B. Pohl of Schulenburg; grandchildren, Tracy and Paul Kuper of Austin, Brent Pohl of Austin, Elizabeth Ann Pohl of Schulenburg; great- grandsons, Stuart Davis of Austin, Ethan W. Pohl of Austin; and great-granddaughters, Jamie Kuper of Austin, and Kaylee Ann Pohl of Austin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 5226 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749.
