I can’t believe it has been a year since we said goodbye to such a wonderful gentleman. I think of him often and remember him in my daily prayers.

Richard J. Sambuchi, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away August 25th with his 3 daughters by his side. Richard was born and raised in Framingham, MA, and completed his undergraduate degree from Boston College. Upon graduation, Richard completed USAF officers training school where he then achieved the rank of Captain. He was stationed at the Port Austin Airforce Base where he met his future wife, Mary Amos.
Shortly thereafter, Richard and Mary relocated to Ann Arbor where Richard received his degree in dentistry from the University of Michigan. After graduation, Richard went on to practice in Bad Axe with his father-in-law, Russell Amos. Richard proudly practiced dentistry for 30 years; his staff and patients were his extended family.
In his later years, Richard spent time between his houses in Port Austin and Fort Myers. He also looked forward to Michigan football games with life-long friends, watching Boston sports, attending his grandchildrens’ sporting events, taking part in church, and spending holidays with family.
Richard is survived by Barbara Sambuchi and friend David Boni, Gina Sambuchi-Blackand husband Steve, Katie Campione and husband Jim, as well as grandchildren Katie, Michael, Andrew, and Sophia. He is also survived by sister-in-law Sharron, nephew, Scott, and niece Tina. Richard also leaves behind many cherished friends and extended family. Richard was predeceased by his parents, wife Mary and brother Robert.
Memorials in Richard’s name can be made to the Michigan Humane Society or the Sacred Heart food pantry.

I was a classmate of Dick in dental school. We were always next to each other as our last names were alphabetically next to each other. All my memories of dental school working side by side with him are happy and fun. He was a serious student and I admired him as he was not only married while in school but was raising a family. RIP Richard.

Although we didn’t know Richard as well as his many lifelong friends, he was a fixture with his book around the pool in Ft. Myers. He was always a classy gentleman with a quiet demeanour and an understated sense of humour. We’ll miss him down there.

We are extremely saddened to hear of Richard`s passing. He was a sweet and gentle man. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats while enjoying our Coronado pool time and our get togethers at the Friday night happy hour. You raised three lovely girls... they are your legacy now. Dr Sambuchi was an extremely kind and caring dentist. He was also a very friendly person who always had a kind word and wanted to know how you and your family were doing. We truly missed him when he retired from dentistry. Our condolences to your family.

The picture is perfect of your Dad, it is how I will always remember him with such an engaging smile. He was a true gentleman and a scholar and I know you girls are as proud of him as he was of his precious family. There are no words to ease this journey of grief, but great love brings great grief. His faith was a beautiful example for all of us and I know because of it he is now enjoying the eternal light that we are promised. You are in my thoughts and prayers for now and always. Mary...

My condolences to all the family! Dick was a total gentleman & respected by all. My biggest memory was when he, Eddy Draves & Mike Cottick paid their respects when my father passed away. It was greatly appreciated. I am sorry to say that I will be unable to attend his memorial service as I will be out of state. Please know that your entire family are in my thoughts & prayers. Sincerely Dee Torres Leonard.
