Richard Such Obituary

Richard E. Such

Salem - Richard E. Such, age 41, passed away November 26, 2018. He was born August 29, 1977 in Salem, Oregon to Steve and Karen Such. He is survived by his wife Katie, daughter Cassidy, parents Steve and Karen Such, of Salem and brother Darin and wife Becky Such of Washougal, Washington.

Rich attended Hayesville Elementary School, Waldo Middle School and McKay High School. He attended the University of Oregon where he received his Bachelors Degree in Music. He attended Western Michigan University where he received his Masters Degree in Music Performance.

When Rich was in 5th grade, he got his first saxophone and began playing in the band. When he was in middle school he began taking private saxophone lessons with Randy Kim, and the rest is history.

He joined the Argonaughts Marching Band when he was in middle school, and played with them 4 years. During his high school years he received almost every music performance award available.

While attending the University of Oregon he was in the Green Garter Band and was the director of GGB as a senior. While at Western Michigan University, there was a Big Ten Jazz Festival at Notre Dame University. Richard received the award as Most Outstanding Musician. Rich loved music, and it just seemed like a natural part of his being.

Rich was currently the band director at Crossler Middle School in Salem. He taught in many schools in the Salem/Keizer School district.

Rich was loved by many and will be missed forever. His celebration of life will be at Salem Alliance Church, December 16, at 2:00 p.m. Assisting the family is Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.

Sending thoughts and prayers in your time of loss. The John Lehmann family,

December 11, 2018

I didn't get to meet Rich, yet I feel I know him thru your posts, the humorous posts of your Dad private jokes. The respect in your Mom's voice when she spoke of him. That he loved you so much that he gives a part of himself daily thru Cassidy.
Trust in your Lord that there is a bigger plan here.
It doesn't make sense now but the pieces will gradually fit together.
Prayers
Angels being sent to wrap their wings around you.
We love you

Dearest Katie,
You, Cassidy, and your extended family are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember the joy and laughter as we worked together. We have much in common and it really came out in the classroom. I know how important family is to you and have fond memories of you often sharing pictures of holidays and just regular weekend shenanigans on many a Monday. Rich will be deeply missed. I pray that you will feel God's presence and His arms of comfort around you as you mourn his ubrupt loss.
I love you, sweetie - Nancy Ornee
