Dear Beth we were so sorry to read of your mother's death.
She was one of the first to welcome me to the neighborhood forty-five years ago and I can not remember her greeting me with anything less than warmth and her sweet smile ever since.
She was a gracious woman, generous with her time and energy for
the community in which she lived and worked.
She will truly be missed.

Rita was a big part of our 4000 Ridgeway block neighborhood and community. She was definitely one who brought our block together and provided unity. When Mary and I moved next door to her, within the first week she had a neighborhood get-together at her place and we were able to meet all the neighbors at once. She was the one who wanted to have block parties in the spring and fall of each year and was always instrumental in planning and sending out the invites.

Her pride and joy was working in the front and back yards and maintaining her beautiful gardens. Many times she would be in her backyard watering the plants and I would pop my head over the fence to say hello and we would talk about her plants and garden. She would proudly display the Whitney Heights Garden of the Month sign in her garden on a continuous basis as her gardens were award winning.

During her days working at Villere's Florist she used her talents to make flowers for our girls when we had Father-Daughter dances and other events. Rita had the famous cookie jar that serviced our kids, the Neff's kids and most recently the Min's daughter. She was Grandmother like to all of them.

Rita loved her food, loved to cook and make Italian dishes, mainly to share with others. She had many gatherings and parties at her house with elaborate decorations. She loved simple things as well, and the Burger King Whopper, Jr., vanilla shake with fries was one of them.

Days before she died she saw a Rouses commercial that showed oysters and she told Beth she would love to have fried oysters. Beth bought the oysters and had them fried up but unfortunately Rita had gone unconscious and never had a chance to eat them. That was one evening I visited Rita and could smell nothing but fried oysters in the house and was saddened by the fact that Rita never had a chance to eat them.

Rita was/is a true believer in Christ and faithfully attended Mass at St. Angela Merici Church most days of the week. For many years she was responsible for decorating the Church Altar and serving on other ministry committees.

We will all truly miss Rita as that friendly, loving neighbor at 4009 Ridgeway Dr.

In heaven I am sure they have the best fried oysters around!
