Robert Cousins Obituary

Robert "Bob" Luke Cousins passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the age of 86. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 3, 1937 to the late Reuben Luke Cousins and Mildred Wagenpfiel Cousins. Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeannette LeBlanc Cousins; son Craig Cousins (Danna); daughter Cristen Cousins Briuglio (Paul); grandchildren Elizabeth Cousins Clapp (William); Benjamin Cousins; Katie Briuglio (fiancé Payne Scott); Brandon Briuglio; Allison Briuglio; great granddaughter Olivia Grace Clapp, who all affectionately called him Papa; sister Mildred Quick (Herman); brother-in-law Ronald Theriot; cousins Janet and Mike Dupuis as well as many other relatives, friends and godchildren. Bob was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and Loyola University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. While earning his degree he also served in the Air National Guard. He was awarded a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Loyola in 1982. In 1960 he began his career as a retail pharmacist and in 1961 opened his own pharmacy in New Orleans, Deblanc's Pharmacy, where he was fondly known as "Doc" to many employees and customers. After 52 years of service to the community he retired to spend more time with his family and continue to travel the world. He was a parishioner and attended mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church since 1953. He was a member of the First District Drug Club of New Orleans, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Pete Fountain Half Fast Walking Club, and Colonial Country Club. Bob was a loyal New Orleans sports fan who was an original Saints season ticket holder and was thrilled to attend the Saints Superbowl victory in Miami. Bob was also an avid golfer who treasured his seven hole-in-ones and the time spent with his family and golfing buddies on and off the course. He was also fortunate to travel the world with his loving wife, family, and friends. Over the 52 years that he owned and operated Deblanc's Pharmacy, his great joy was the relationships and lifelong friendships he formed with his pharmacy family. But most of all, he cherished every moment spent with his adoring children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on March 2 beginning at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Rosary, 3368 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery. To view and sign the family guestbook, please visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

Craig, Danna, Christen and Paul,
So very sorry to hear about Mr. Bob´s passing. I always enjoyed seeing Doc and Mrs. Jeannette at Mass at Holy Rosary and talking to them afterwards. Stuart and the Tullis family held him in high regard and Stuart shared stories of the two years he worked at the pharmacy. He left behind a beautiful legacy through his family. May the memories of Doc bring you comfort in this difficult time.

Bobby Cousins was my first employer where I rode a bicycle to delivered prescriptions. He imbued in me a work ethic that last to this day. I will remember him forever as a great role model and a wonderful human being. My deep condolences to his wonderful family.

Bobby, you were truly a one-of-a-kind man: kind, generous, loving, stern (kind-of, at least for show). You gave me my first job and showed me by example how to be a real man. You had a full life and truly earned your place in heaven. You will be missed by the thousands of hearts that you touched. Rest in peace, my friend!

I had the good fortune to have been Doc's and Janet's godson --- I'm sure one of his countless godchildren. Before I worked at the drug store for 6 years in high school and college, he was Uncle Bobby. A true character; as generous as they come; the ultimate family man; hard working and never complaining; full of life and vigor; cherishing his wife, kids, and grandkids above all. He was a superb role model for anyone. I sought his orbit to become a better person. I've always admired him the most of any man I've ever met. Janet was my mother's first childhood friend and she is as lovely a person as you'll meet. I've always loved Doc and his family, whom I consider part of my own. He will never be forgotten. Peace and love to all those who will miss him.
