Walter J. Zalewski Funeral Home - 44th Street - Pittsburgh Obituary

Age 69, of Mars, PA, formerly of Lawrenceville, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 30, 2025, two years after being diagnosed with the rare cancer, myxoid liposarcoma. He was at home with his family by his side. Beloved husband of 40 years of Donna M. (Wieczorek) Heiter; father of Rob (Tamika) Heiter; grandfather of R.J., Cameron, Trinity and Londyn; son of the late Hal and Shirley Heiter; son-in-law of the late Frank and Iris Wieczorek; loving brother of Robin J. Heiter and Michael S. (Tracy) Heiter; brother-in-law of the late Ronald (surviving wife Kim) Wieczorek; uncle of Brian, Brittany (Chris), Sara, Ronnie, Kory and Katie; great-uncle of Koa, Leia and Banyan.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and always said he "felt closest to God in the woods". Having hiked many National Parks, he treasured the ones in Wyoming, Montana, Utah and Colorado. His favorite activity was elk hunting in the Rocky Mountains on horseback. His life was an adventure and moving frequently never phased him. The phrase "never met a stranger" was the perfect description of Bob. Most encounters would end with a big bear hug, whether you wanted one or not. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017 on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. (Family and friends attending, please meet at the cemetery.)

In lieu of flowers, Bob would be honored by donating to: Grace Community Church, 9160 Marshall Road, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066, mygcc.org/give or to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek, Missoula, MT 59808, rmef.org/donate/memorials-honoraria.

Single Memorial Tree

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. GOD BLESS!!

Bob was the nicest guy. I’ll always remember him as a big teddy bear. I think all of your friends will be here for Donna at this difficult time and in the future, Heiter, as you would want us to be.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Donna,
I am truly heartbroken for the loss of Bob to our family. He is truly irreplaceable to all of those who knew and loved him. I take comfort in knowing that is he with his Lord and Savoir and pain-free. Love you.

Donna - my heart breaks for you & all of Bob's family! What a huge homecoming he received as he entered his new life. I pray that the amazing memories that y'all created all over the world will bring you comfort & peace. The "General" will always be with you...

Donna, so sorry for your loss.
