ROBERT JAMESON Obituary

Robert Eugene Jameson, age 72, Kansas City, MO, passed away on April 21, 2013, after a two-year struggle with squamaus cell cancer. Bob was born on November 26, 1940, in Topeka, KS, son of the late George Homer and Olive Weaver Jameson. A graduate of Topeka High School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Washburn University, a Master of Arts degree in Social Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and completed course work toward a Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Bob began his professional career as a research assistant/photographer at Topeka's Menninger Foundation. He moved to Harrisburg, PA in 1969 to study behavioral causes of traffic accidents and later served as a program analyst for the Pennsylvania Governor's Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. In 1982 he returned to Kansas City and served as a Program Evaluation Specialist with the Heart of America United Way and later as Operations Analyst for the Jackson County Department of Corrections. In 1991 he joined the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation as a Senior Evaluation Specialist, a position he left in 2002 to form Jameson and Associates Program Evaluation, LLC. A long-time member of the American Evaluation Association, Bob spent the next eight years providing objective information for decision- making to not-for-profit organizations and taught courses in Research Methods at the University of Kansas, Edwardsville Campus and in Program Evaluation at UMKC and Park University. Bob married Susan Silverglatt in 1965 and they had one daughter, Stacy Kathleen, born in 1970. The marriage ended in divorce in 1977 and Bob married Cheryl Lee in Kansas City, MO in 1982. That marriage ended in divorce 10 years later. For him, the third time was a charm when he married Yvonne Umland Smith on May 20, 1995, in Bonner Springs, KS. They shared a passion for the arts, classical music and theater, the Midwest, Saturday mornings at Andre's, and preparing meals for and with their dinner group friends. Bob was an avid astronomer, camper, hiker, photographer, reader, movie fan, amateur cellist, and concert and theater-goer. He enjoyed playing Scrabble, bocce and backgammon. Friends will remember him for his inquiring mind, remarkable memory, and kind and loving spirit. He is survived by Yvonne, his wife of 18 years; his daughter Stacy (Richard Bungiro) and grandchildren Alexander and Lilianne, Madison, CT; and sisters Marilyn (Lloyd Morris) and Karen, Topeka, KS. Bob was an active 30-year member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. His memorial service will be held at All Souls at 3 p.m., Monday, April 29, with Reverend Kendyl Gibbons officiating. A reception hosted by the Men's Group will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church's Music Fund or to Kansas City Hospice. The family is overwhelmed with gratitude for the many kindnesses shown to them. Special thanks is given to Kansas City Hospice for keeping him pain-free and comfortable during the last 4 1/2 months of his life. "Forever you abide, a singing rib within my dreaming side." M

I always looked forward to seeing Bob, from the first time we met at Southwest High School PTA functions through the Turtles' HHH January campouts and social gatherings. A good friend, a good person, someone who will be missed by all who knew him.

I worked with Bob at the Kauffman Foundation and would often see him and his lovely wife at many art/theatre events. He always remembered my name and welcomed me with a hug. I am happy he is no longer in pain! I will forever remember him. My sincere condolences to his family.

Yvonne,

I had no idea of all the fascinating things Bob did until reading the paper.

I'm glad you had so many wonderful years together. You were such good companions.

But I'm sorry to hear that you both had to experience cancer. I'll be thinking of you.

Bob was a friend in high school and I know how he suffered with this cancer. I had surgery and chemo treatments for Adenosquamous cell pancreatic cancer seven years ago. Only a few of us can say we fully survived this cancer. Bob and I always visited at the Topeka High reunions and I will truly miss his smilling face and humor.

Bob was my mentor, advisor and support in my career in program evaluation starting from my internship at Kauffman foundation. I have learned so much from Bob! I enjoyed our monthly lunch for the Kansas City Evaluator Network. He was also a good friend. I am going to miss his laugh and professional advice.

Always enjoyed talking with Bob, the intellectual, yet so unassuming. We had great conversations at Kauffman on arts and culture. A quality human being.

I was thinking of Bob recently, his wry sense of humor, knowledge in so many areas & penchant for just the right hat. It was a privilege to know him. Blessings.
