I worked for Bob LaBate at the Amber Pub for 8 years in the late 70s to mid 80s. There were many other employees who were with him longer. He was an easy and generous employer. He encouraged me to return to school. I compare every restaurant experience I have to the way he, and we as his employees, provided for our customers. Not many stack up. I look back on that experience proudly and fondly. RIP Bob

Jean and Family - My deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather. Many beautiful memories flow through my mind of Maple Valley Tavern and The Amber Pub. In fact, the first date I had with Clancy was to Maple Valley Tavern. What a wonderful kind person God put on this earth for all of us to share. Your loss is certainly Heaven's gain.

My sincere condolences to the Labate family. My grandparents lived across the street from the Labates on Lombard Ave. on North Hill where my father became friends with Bob, and their friendship continued through the days of the Amber Pub. When Bob and Jean had their Copley Rd. business,
I used to babysit their youngest daughter.
When my son Mark was in college he worked for Bob at Amber Pub, Bob treated him so well by. What a wonderful man.

Dear Jean and girls....just thinking of my Godfather Bob, brings a smile to my face. My last memory of him was when you stopped by my house Jean, to drop something off for me. Bob rolled down the window smiling as always, he took my hand and told me I was beautiful. He always made me feel so special. I always think so fondly of you all. Margaret you can be sure my mother as your Godmother, said many prayers for you and your family. Much love and prayers to you all. Eternal rest grant unto Bob...

Dear Labate Family:

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Bob.

My own memory of Bob Labate is one that makes me smile with gratitude. I had the great fortune of working at the Amber Pub in the early 1980s.
He hired me as a busboy and maitre d. I had just moved to Akron and knew few people. He not only gave me a job as I worked my way through school at the Univ, of Akron, but he often fed me at the restaurant when I had little money for food. He also would give, me each year,...

My condolences on the loss of your loved one. Cherish the time you shared together; may God comfort your family. Ps.147:3
