I worked for Bob LaBate at the Amber Pub for 8 years in the late 70s to mid 80s. There were many other employees who were with him longer. He was an easy and generous employer. He encouraged me to return to school. I compare every restaurant experience I have to the way he, and we as his employees, provided for our customers. Not many stack up. I look back on that experience proudly and fondly. RIP Bob

Jean and Family - My deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather. Many beautiful memories flow through my mind of Maple Valley Tavern and The Amber Pub. In fact, the first date I had with Clancy was to Maple Valley Tavern. What a wonderful kind person God put on this earth for all of us to share. Your loss is certainly Heaven's gain.

My sincere condolences to the Labate family. My grandparents lived across the street from the Labates on Lombard Ave. on North Hill where my father became friends with Bob, and their friendship continued through the days of the Amber Pub. When Bob and Jean had their Copley Rd. business,
I used to babysit their youngest daughter.
When my son Mark was in college he worked for Bob at Amber Pub, Bob treated him so well by. What a wonderful man.

Dear Jean and girls....just thinking of my Godfather Bob, brings a smile to my face. My last memory of him was when you stopped by my house Jean, to drop something off for me. Bob rolled down the window smiling as always, he took my hand and told me I was beautiful. He always made me feel so special. I always think so fondly of you all. Margaret you can be sure my mother as your Godmother, said many prayers for you and your family. Much love and prayers to you all. Eternal rest grant unto Bob oh Lord, may perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen

Dear Labate Family:
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Bob.
My own memory of Bob Labate is one that makes me smile with gratitude. I had the great fortune of working at the Amber Pub in the early 1980s.
He hired me as a busboy and maitre d. I had just moved to Akron and knew few people. He not only gave me a job as I worked my way through school at the Univ, of Akron, but he often fed me at the restaurant when I had little money for food. He also would give, me each year, a Christmas envelope with some money.
As it turns out, unbeknowst to me, my mother had babysat one of his daughters when she was young, many years earlier. She spoke very highly of Bob, and was comforted to know I was working for such a generous man.
He made everyone who worked for him at the Amber Pub feel like family. I am forever in his debt.
May you, Jean, his wife, children, grandchildren and larger family all be comforted during this time, and also be raised up knowing how much he mean to so many.
May the Peace of the Lord be with you,
So Grateful,
Mark

To Cathy and Family,
So sorry to learn of your dad's death. Wonderful memories of going to the Amber Pub & Mr. Labate's friendliness and class. It was always a special place to meet for a meal. I was in grade school at St. Sebastian's with Cathy. It's been many, many years, but I remember with fondness an ice skating party at Forest Lodge with her and other school friends and going back to the Labate house for homemade hot chocolate. Your mom and dad were such nice people. I've never forgotten that great memory. My condolences.

Dear Barb, I was saddened by the passing of your father. I recall fondly when you and I were in the ski club at St. Vincent-St. Mary and we'd all meet at your home. You dad, as always, friendly, a gentleman, a handshake and a conversation in his back pocket. I keep you and your family close in thought and prayer. My best to you, Tim and the boys.

A kind and generous man who lived by the Credo of "Faith, Family, Fellowship and Food". He always had a warm and friendly smile and always made you feel special when he talked with you. He truly loved his family and his Italian heritage. He was a great father-in-law. He was a faithful catholic and is now home with Christ Jesus. Grace, mercy, peace be with you Papa Molise!

We are so sorry to hear about Bob. I grew up going to the Amber Pub with my grandparents Ann and Clarke Mack. This place was an extension of my home- of my family. It's of those years I remember warmth, tradition, and laughter. Thankful to have had the Labates in my life. Celebrate his legacy!

I met Mr Labate back in 1983 when I was working for Dr. Hemphill. The Dr would take us to the Amber Pub for lunch. I remembered him so well because he was such a kind and gentle man. It makes me sad to know that he has passed. I am sure he will be greatly missed. Sympathy for his loved ones. Donna Y
