Robert J. Lichtle

ROBERT J. LICHTLE PORTAGE, IN Robert J. Lichtle, age 79, of Portage, formerly of Griffith, IN passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Robert was born July 11, 1937 to Mark and Ceil (French) Lichtle in Hammond, IN. He grew up in Hammond and attended Bishop Noll High School. Following high school he served in the U. S. Navy and Naval Reserves. He was a retired "Railroader" (44 years) starting with the Erie/Conrail in Hammond, IN and ending with Amtrak in Chicago, IL. Bob enjoyed being with family, vacationing in South Padre Island, TX with friends and spending time fishing and being in the "Northwoods". He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Chaples) Lichtle; children: Janel (Dean) Allbritten, James (Debra) Lichtle, Thomas Lichtle and Laura (Kevin) Frisk; proud grandpa of Jennifer (Allen) Keen, Kate (Michael) Oprisko, Brian Lichtle, Bill Udchitz, Michael Allbritten and Samantha Udchitz; and great grandpa of Hannah Keen. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
