ROBERT LINZAY Obituary

87 years old, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, after a long illness. He was born January 25, 1923, to Robert and Emma Linzay on Beaver Creek just outside of Oakdale, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by both parents and his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Linzay. He is survived by his son, Dwayne Linzay (wife Maria) and daughter Gayla Isbell (husband Eric); grandsons Michael Linzay (Dena) and Greg Linzay (Angela) and granddaughters Jennifer Cusano (Mark) and Jamie Isbell.The delight of his later years were his great-grandchildren Rhiannon Linzay, Isaac, Joshua and Karis Linzay, and Jackson and Tucker Cusano. Robert graduated from John Brown University (political science) and received his masters degree in education from the University of Arkansas. He later earned advanced graduate credit at North Texas State, Texas University, UCLA, Whittier College and La Verne University. In 1949 he began his career in education as bus driver/ teacher/administrator in Arkansas and as the principal of West Side Elementary in Arlington, Texas. In 1958 he was appointed Headmaster & Superintendent of John Brown Military Academy in Glendora, California. In 1961 he accepted a professorship at Upland College; he reentered public education teaching history at Upland High School. Robert became the history department chairman at the new Alta Loma High School in 1963. For 15 years Robert was the announcer for the Alta Loma Braves football games. He retired from teach ing in 1983. Robert and Dot traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada. Robert loved to visit historic sites in American history. He loved geography, remembering every location he visited, especially in his beloved Louisiana and Texas. On occasion Robert was referred to as the Bayou Will Rogers with his ability to use his sense of humor in telling stories and jokes. He was a big music fan, preferring Bob Wills and big band era songs. Robert considered Bible reading and study a major fact or in the development of character; he taught many Sunday school classes over the years. He was an active member of 11th Street Baptist Church for 48 years. Services will be Friday, November 26, 2010, at 11th Street Baptist Church, Upland, CA at 6:00 PM. Dessert to follow in fellowship hall. Internment will be private. Contributions may be made to the Robert Linzay Memorial Fund at 11th Street Baptist Church or John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

I am so sorry for your loss. 40 years ago Mr. Linzay taught me how to read the stock market...for the last 40 years I have always thought of him every time I read the business section of the newspaper. He was a great educator.
